Got a new receiver that plays all kinds of media files.  Downloaded this from HDTracks.  Whew boy, this music cooks.  The separation and depth is nothing short of astounding.  Especially for the Battle of Crait section featuring the TIE Fighter attack music, absolutely killer.  Every instrument comes through so clearly!  I can't recall a non specialty label JW release  that sounded this good since the Ultimate Edition of Phantom Menace.

Yea, there's a lot of music in the film, and you know what else I noticed?  It didn't really seem to be messed with at all.

I mean, there wasn't any parts that felt like it was edited around and mucked with.  There wasn't any parts that were tracked in from prior movies.

There wasn't any parts that sounded like the OST for a while, then went off on some other path due to Inserts or tracking or editing, etc.

It all sounded quite at home.  Johnson seems to have treated the entire score with a lot of respect.

Honestly this score is beyond all my expectations. I was worried JW was getting too old to pull  out something like this

Right now what strikes me is that TLJ is so much bolder and luch orchestrally than TFA

It feels like the underscore from the days of Empire Strikes Back.  The recurring themes don't seemed shoe- horned in like TFA

It's immediately engaging, not after multiple repeats like TFA

I am a huge fan of TFA score.  So far, for me, this exceeds it in every way.  I am utterly in love with this.  And that is rare for me on a first listen.  Rose's theme brought an instant smile to my face.  Having not seen the film yet, my excitement now could not be higher.  Williams writing feels incredible exciting, inspired, like he was enjoying himself immensely!  I'll be listening to this non stop.

    A couple thoughts:

    1)  I am not as fond of this score as I am a lot of other Williams, for whatever reason.  That has changed.

    2)  The sound on this release is absolutely mind blowing.  I felt like ET was a nice step up, but for some reason this feels monumental, like we were previously listening to it underwater.  ESPECIALLY when the chorus is in with the orchestra.  The clarity and separation are stun-ning.

    3)  Not to deliberately drink the kool-aid here, and I don't think I would like this method for most releases, but this expanded album listening experience from disc one knocks it out of the park.  The mix of "noisy" cues and melodic cues are perfect, I stayed engaged and never got bored. I can say i've never been as satisfied with this score as I am tonight.  This made the score "click" for me, which has not happened previously.  I feel as if I've wasted time not appreciating this score more fully in the past.  By the time the finale came, it was tears in my eyes satisfaction.

Needless to say, I honestly feel this may be objectively, THE best Williams release we've gotten.

I KNOW I’m spoiled with Williams releases now. Because CE3K is a masterpiece release but this one has me more excited right now. So so much music. And even all the source!  I’m totally blown away. Makes me want to fly to Burbank just to shake everyone’s hand.
