What is your favorite 1997 John Williams score?
MrScratch replied to Sandor's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I voted Lost World, though the theme to SYIT is hands down the best individual piece from any of these scores. -
Which of these 2 recent Star Wars concert versions do you prefer

Interesting! -
Which of these 2 recent Star Wars concert versions do you prefer
MrScratch replied to King Mark's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Rey. Hearing the 2018 revised Han Solo & The Princess just makes me want to listen to Gerhardt's original arrangement of the theme. -
Agreed!

Rebellion Is Reborn is my favorite of these, I like it even more than Rey's theme too. The Scherzo is my least favorite of the Disney-era Williams Star Wars pieces.

VOTE! Galaxy's Edge by John Williams - how do you like it?
MrScratch replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
3 - It's a pretty solid piece of music. It may grow on me more after more listens. -
Listening to Rosewood today.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial La-La Land MUSIC Discussion
MrScratch replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
The OST cover is still my favorite. -
Why is a large part of the Battle of Yavin not scored?
MrScratch replied to Score's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I never thought there should be music there. The lack of music tells us that the first trench run is futile. When the music does kick back in, it tells us things are dire for our Rebel heroes. It was and still is the right decision. -
After the last few weeks, I'm taking a break from Superman: The Movie.

My brother did go with me to see Williams conduct, which surprised me a little because he is definitely a casual fan and those tickets were pretty expensive.

Everyone in my family likes/appreciates John Williams to some degree but I’m the only one listening to film scores outside of the movie. My Dad likes all kinds of stuff but the most he would listen to from a movie soundtrack is the main themes. He has some old movie soundtracks and soundtrack compilations, like Mancini and that kind of thing. He would never listen to an entire orchestral movie soundtrack. My siblings will sometimes attend LTP concerts with me and my wife.

How would you rate the early Star Wars re-recordings?
MrScratch replied to Jurassic Shark's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Gerhardt's Empire is the best, both for performance and for the variety of content in the program. His recording of the Main Title crawl is my favorite re-recording of that piece. And this album contains the definitive recording of Han Solo & The Princess. My one and only nitpick with this album would be the End Titles, wish he'd have recorded The Rebel Fleet music that leads into the credits too.- 58 replies

ACROSS THE STARS - Williams / Mutter collaboration album
MrScratch replied to WilliamsStarShip2282's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Really looking forward to Nice To Be Around. Can't wait to hear what Williams does revisiting one of his 70s pop tunes. -
Which Star Wars Trilogy album do you prefer?
MrScratch replied to Jurassic Shark's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Kojian. Better, lively performances. It also happens to be the very first CD I ever bought, that CD was my first experience with listening to "previously unreleased" music. It was rather exciting.- 21 replies

"Pops On The March" is pretty bad. There are very few JW pieces that I outright dislike but that's one of them.
-
Yes. And I like it better than the Midway March.

Do you own the OST to STAR WARS (excluding recent rereleases)?
MrScratch replied to Jurassic Shark's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I have the 2LP OST from when I was a kid that my parents bought. The sleeve is beat to hell and the records all scratched up but it's still one of my most cherished possessions. I also bought the 2CD set of the OST in the early 90s. -
The Rise of Skywalker Star Wars: Episode IX - Early Score Predictions Thread
MrScratch replied to crumbs's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Agreed about ROTS and I don’t mind it’s use in the finale of TFA but by TLJ it has now become a completely uninspired way to musically end a SW movie - whoever’s decision it was. And as I said, it wasn’t even the most appropriate theme to use for the final shot of TLJ. -
The Rise of Skywalker Star Wars: Episode IX - Early Score Predictions Thread
MrScratch replied to crumbs's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
The Force Theme is way overused. If he uses it again to close out Episode 9 that will be 4 movies in a row using the Force Theme to lead into the end credits. The use of it at the end of Last Jedi was particularly lazy, that moment called for a big inspiring statement of Luke’s Theme as that kid looked up at the stars. -
SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE - 3CD Set from La-La Land Records
MrScratch replied to TownerFan's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Ordered! Along with Saving Private Ryan. Is there anything in the Blue Box that isn’t in this new set? Not counting the source cues of course. -
E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL - Live to Projection Concerts
MrScratch replied to TownerFan's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
The National Symphony will be doing E.T. LTP on Friday August 2, 2019. I’ll definitely be going to this since I couldn’t make it to the Baltimore Symphony’s performance a couple years ago. https://www.wolftrap.org/tickets/calendar/performance/19filene/0802show19.aspx -
The Songs Of John Williams: which are essential?
MrScratch replied to Sandor's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Wow. Apparently I never got LLL’s release of The Fury. Going to have to track that down...
