A24 got a reaction from TSMefford in Justice League movie thread
It sometimes felt like it was filmed with a medium format camera.

That's how they started the project but later it went its own way.

I hear many people complaining about the amount of slo-mo in this movie, but to be honest, I didn't notice it. Even today my son said that 20% of JL is slow motion and I go "really?!" I seem to be immune to it.

Not sure if I agree. IMO, characters were well presented (thanks to lengthier running time) and storytelling had a surprising clarity. In a way, everything felt a bit too familiar and safe (except for its slow pacing, of course), clearly aiming at a broad audience*. And apparently, given the audience's reaction, it paid off.
* with moments to make the American audience cheer (if it played in theaters) and wave with their plastic lightsabers (if it was a Star Wars movie)

No, but when people finally get tired of superhero movies, a desperate Marvel and DC will do crossovers (in order to attract the audiences) resulting in HULK vs Superman movies.

A24 got a reaction from TSMefford in The Force Awakens is probably the last thing in my life I ever looked forward to as much as I did
Another movie that I expected a lot from was Blade Runner. It was going to be the successor of Ridley Scott who completely rocked my world with Alien which was one of the most beautiful sci-fi visions I've ever seen. I went to see it on day one together with two friends but somehow my expectations weren't entirely met. I thought it was good but it wasn't as great as Alien. That being said, having 'the wrong expectations' can actually be your worst enemy. Three days later, two of us went to see it again, and this time it even exceeded my initial expectations. My buddy, who was with me, experienced the same thing.

Me too. All my troubles seemed so far away.

Police Academy - well, it was on ITV4 last night and I hadn't seen it in full since its initial VHS release. An amiable enough way to pass a couple of hours on a Monday night ... goofy fun with some pleasantly gratuitous tit-flashes and still some chuckles to be had, 37 years on.

Just replace TFA with RETURN OF THE JEDI and I said the same thing 😒 - thirty eight years ago😞

With the exception of Dancing Queen, America never bought into ABBA. It was too Euro.

The first time I watched The Heiress I thought it was brilliant. So dark I couldn't believe it's a movie from 1949.

Now that Ridley Scott is back in form (All The Money In The World), I'm looking forward to The Last Duel the most.

A24 got a reaction from Bayesian in A new appreciation for the throne room scene
It's a spectacle nonetheless. In 1977, I vividly remember being impressed and surprised with the scale of the scene, the enormous size of the room, the many extras and the amount of costumes. It was the kind of magnitude you only saw in the epics of the '50s and '60s.

The Eiger Sanction
Well, this movie hasn't aged well! It really is a film of its time I suppose.
I went in knowing nothing about it, so was amused by the sort of James Bond / Indiana Jones ish ideas at the beginning like him being this sort of former assassin / adventurer, who is now a college professor that has female students throwing themselves at him. Turns out this is just the start of literally every female character in the movie throwing themselves at him, something that has no resolution or payoff and just seems to randomly be thrown in there. I dunno if this is due to Clint's ego, or if it was an element of the novel...
The story overall was OK. All the beginning setup and exposition is painfully slow; You could tell from watching that things were cut down here, too, and maybe they should have cut more... Once he gets to Utah and George Kennedy things improve dramatically, but really the best part of the film is easily the final act in Switzerland at the Eiger mountain. It still wasn't great, but it at least looked nice and paced fine.
Overall, a pretty dopey and inconsequential movie that doesn't over too much of value, though maybe at the time the twists and general machinations of the assassin plot weren't so cliched (we both guessed who the assassin was very early on).
The only reason I would have ever bothered to watch this was because John Williams scored it, and the score is great! Starts off moody and a bit jazzy, has some nice tension around an early gruesome murder, back to light jazz for a while as everything is set up, then we get a big showcase orchestral cue for some rock climbing in Utah. Once we get to Switzerland there's more orchestral stuff, more tension, and it all ends with a return to the jazz. A shame the OST album is only 35 minutes!

10 to 20 years is bad?! By that time I would already have replaced it with the latest and greatest model. Really, back in the day, I don't think I ever had a deck that failed on me. I can't say the same about silver disc spinners (CD / DVD / Blu-ray).

I bought the CD of AVATAR, in December, 2009. It is still in its cellophane wrapper.

Exactly, it made it a lot more childish than the first movie. Just because the villain rips out hearts from people's chests doesn't make this a movie for adults!
