  1. I'm forgoing the micro editing and just moving around some tracks and leaving others as alternates at the end of my Force Awakens playlist. One edit I did make was I separated Jedi Steps so that lovely melody has its own track and the finale starts with The Force Theme before the credits start.
  2. I don't know about the best - the idea would have never occurred to me without this thread, but certainly I feel the flute solo at the end of The Scavenger is up there with Williams' most beautiful moments.
  3. That's my experience with most Williams scores with the exception of the ones I was already familiar with when I started collecting (ie the big ones) and a few others. A new score is always not exactly what I was expecting - how could it be? And it takes time before it feels like it truly belongs in Williams' canon. Of course, every score belongs in that canon, but it takes time for a new score or work to feel like it belongs in the Williams' library of my mind. New scores often initially feel like unwanted and obtrusive intruders. The same goes for new works by a lot of other musicians. What I've come to realize is that a Williams' score always grows on me as its melodies, harmonies, and other little intricacies cement themselves in my mind. I might not grow to love every piece of course, but there are always pieces or sections of pieces that eventually give me much more pleasure than my first listen indicated. The first few listens might not do much for me (there are exceptions), but at some point during a later listen, a little light goes off in mind, and suddenly I can't wait to listen to that piece again and again and again. A real sense of expectancy and excitement precedes each subsequent listen.
  4. I was thinking that very thing earlier tonight. And also that it has similiar instrumentation and feel to the militaristic music in Close Encounters and Raiders. The track is really growing on me. It's completely different, isn't it?
  5. Perhaps this belongs in a Star Wars thread, but which one?
  6. This will kill two of the remaining minutes for those of us still waiting to see the movie:
  7. All, or at least most, of the orchestral parts played on guitar. I so wish I had thought to do that.
  8. For what it's worth (and that might not be much), I'm convinced it's new Star Wars music by our boy Johnny.
  9. The reporter should be fired for not responding: "Whistle it or it didn't happen".
  10. Thanks Jay, All these years, I never realized that was two cues.
  11. What's The Catamaran Race track? I have the OST, but there doesn't seem to be a corresponding track on the first disc. Is it a concert/album arrangement? Argh, I guess "More Boating" is a likely candidate. It's much shorter though.
  12. Are we about 30 minutes away? All these differing time zones (I'm in Seoul) always freak me out!
  13. I'm guessing Williams, especially for the arrangement of the OT themes. It was wonderful hearing Han Solo and the Princess!
  14. A back ailment was given as the reason John cancelled some summer concerts. I think what happened was some assumed that back ailment was the reason for John not scoring Bridge of Spies. As I mentioned above the press release announcing Newman was on board didn't mention a back ailment. No conspiracy here folks^
  15. The original press release announcing Newman coming on board in place of Williams simply mentioned a minor health issue. http://fromdirectorstevenspielberg.tumblr.com/post/113957068040/full-press-release-about-john-williams-departure Where did the talk of a back problem originate? And he has had back problems in the past, so perhaps his back was acting up as well.
  16. Bear just posted the cover of the upcoming Da Vinci's Demons season 3 soundtrack on Facebook^
  17. Tommy also mentioned playing Last Crusade source music in Guitar Player magazine. I recall he included a few bars of the score. Sorry, I no longer have a copy of that magazine.
  18. I'm only interested in the CD with the green alien chick on it. She was the first woman I ever fell in love with. And one of the few that hasn't since broken my heart.
  19. It's been mentioned several times that the recordings will be spread out over several months. I'm sure there were sessions in July and this month, and Williams said recently there may be more sessions in September if changes need to be made.
