Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Gareth Edwards 2016)

Yes, yes, it was in Bakura Never Dies.

'More clones, you say?' asked the Grand Moff to Darth Imperius. 'No, clones are no more. All the Jango Fett units are long gone, and his son Boba refuses to provide us with his DNA. We shall recruit farmers. That is what the Empire needs. A storm is coming, and so are our new troops. Forget the clonetroopers. Our new soldiers will be called... the Stormtroopers.

That is awful. Like The Prequels in writing!

I hope you made that up Alvar.

Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk both join cast of Star Wars: Rogue One

Quote

Joining Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) is Diego Luna (Milk, Killing Them Softly), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Mississippi Grind), Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Casino Royale), Alan Tudyk (Firefly) who plays a performance-capture character in the film, and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions).

"Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe," says Kathleen Kennedy. "It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I'm so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he's selected for Rogue One."

I think it's a garbage rumor, TBH. In a series that is already going to be casting new versions of its characters (first up- Han Solo), there's no reason they won't just recast this as well.

Only way it would work was VERY limitedly (a brief hologram or something like that). IMO we have yet to see a convincing digital human (at least among other real, breathing humans), and the makeup job in ROTS was awful too. If you need to use the character so much, cast someone who looks similar and go with it.

Yeah, but it's still not the same without Williams himself. That and the director's boring Godzilla film take this down a few pegs for me.

Desplat ain't Williams. But he's a great musician in his own right and I'm pretty sure will be able to give us a nice Star Wars score. Remember that he became a composer BECAUSE of John Williams and Star Wars. If I remember correctly, he mentioned it as his biggest influence. He mentioned that several times in different interviews.

Godzilla, while not amazing, was well-directed and I cannot fault it on a technical level.

No, the film editor does not create the temp track. The music editor does - or more specifically, a member of the music editing team (bigger films have a bigger music department). And some directors are very specific about what they want in the temp track, while others aren't - it all depends.

Weird. Would make more sense if it was the film editor, as, you know, he's the one editing the damn scenes.

The whole practice should be abolished.

Agreed.

I've never had the urge to put a Desplat score on for a second spin. I never dislike Desplat's work, but it just doesn't interest me. I'm hopeful that his use of the Star Wars canvas will bring out something interesting to me.

The moments Yates allowed him to actually write in the Williams vein were the only highlights of his Potter scores. It's very easy to tell which scenes he had the shackles of the temp track dragging him down.

I reckon he'll do pretty darn well. I much prefer his lush orchestrations to Giacchino's dry sound.

This could be a more "interesting" film than Episode 7, I think.

Are we expecting there to be a lightsaber battle in this film? Or even lightsabers at all?
