Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (JJ Abrams 2015)

No it was before the prequels, and to be frank some of this was a discussion I had with my friends at the time when we were giddy over Empire and couldn't wait for Jedi. Unfortunately I don't have the magazines where a lot of this was discussed, but it was in between Empire and Jedi.

I will try and see if I can find an article online. Some of it was in another Sci-fi magazine that had a similar name to Starlog's.

There was some criticism at the time about Jabba's palace.

Some of the critics at the time mentioned Jedi, while great entertainment, had that been there before, running out of ideas feeling.

That was the very first picture from ROTJ that I saw. I thought maybe they didn't destroy the original completely. Upon a quick first glance it looked like the side was blown out and those were the remains.

I never thought they would rebuild the damn thing a second time.

Well, what else could they have come up with?

The original idea was that it took place around what would eventually become Courescent if I'm not mistaken.

See a lot of people figured Vader was lying and that the other Yoda spoke of was Luke's father, who had gone into hiding. He would be revealed and join his son against Vader and the Emperor. I also remember speculation that Lando and Chewie would rescue Han, kill Jabba and convince the smugglers to join in the final battle against the Empire.

Wasn't expecting Jabba's palace to be a safe haven for the muppet show rejects.

Wow, that is cool!

It's almost surreal... Williams definitely returning to score Episode VII. And with a director who isn't edit happy on musical scores...

Somebody pinch me.

This is great news. It's hard to believe we'll be getting a new Star Wars score from Williams.

ROTJ was seen as a rethread I guess. Another Death Star etc...

Also many didnt like the Ewoks.

I hated the film before the Ewok appeared. The Ewok were just another nail in the coffin.

I guess cute little teddy bears is what Lucas was aiming for so that parent would buy the toy version for their little kids. The Ewok is a much worse idea than anything in the prequels but fondness for childhood memories prevents some 'fans' of seeing that.

Cringe, I loved Caravan of Courage when I was a kid. Used to pretend I was the giant, stomping around my bedroom with my Action Force figures imprisoned in a DIY cardboard cage which I had dangling from the ceiling with a safety pin.

You could say the same thing about Terminator 2... in the end it ROTJ might have used a little too much elements of the first movie, but it wasn't just a replica.

Clues to the title of the next movie here?

"Interestingly, even then there was a tie-in for the unannounced-at-the-time Episode 7, planned with the subtitle Shadows of the Sith"

Oh George, you devious money-grubbing f***er.

I don't see how a book published in 2008 about cancelled Star Wars games has anything to do with what this new movie will be called. Likely the plan was to continue on the main storyline with new "Episodes" in game form.

Epi VII: Before Binary Sunset

Epi VIII: Before Binary Sunrise

Epi IX: Before Binary Midnight

In which Hans and Leia just do nothing but talk, talk, talk. Still a better love story than Twilight though.
