Pirates, of course, did make it into the final film - in the rathtar sequence. But that ended up being kind of lame.

But then what the hell was the "backdrop" in his treatment? Maybe it was like, "The rebuilding Republic is threatened by pirates and other factions from lawless areas of the galaxy"?

Reminds me of Stargate SG-1 when the Goa'uld's defeat left a power vacuum that was soon filled by the Lucian Alliance, which was a fragile coalition of space pirates.

Somehow it got randomly posted to a Reddit thread a few weeks ago (by someone here?) and this major SW news site picked it up.

"THE FORCE AWAKENS: A Bad L..." This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Dramatists Play Service.

So some random organization (presumably this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dramatists_Play_Service) can make a copyright claim and the video is immediately taken down?

I did already watch it, luckily. It was pretty funny, though not on the level of the Plinkett reviews.

For anyone who's interested in George Lucas' role in TFA's story, this Reddit user has provided the most comprehensive summary I've seen thus far. This guy seems to have really done his research - I've done a ton of reading on the subject and most of his points line up with what I've found.

Probably the most surprising thing he found was this Pablo Hidalgo tweet:

All in all, the summary makes a compelling case that Lucas' ideas were used much more than previously thought. As this Reddit user suggests and as some old news articles I've found seem to confirm, Lucas was involved with the film for several months before the "divorce" -- and in that time most of the major building blocks were established.
