Koray Savas 2,251
I know there have been several threads that discuss other music we listen to besides film scores. However, how to you organize and listen to the music you like?If I just listened to film scores I would eventually get bored and tired with them and begin to dislike them. I like to vary between score and songs in chuncks. For a month I'll listen to scores, then switch to songs, and then go back and forth like that.I don't think I can listen to John Williams one minute and then switch to The Beatles the next, it just doesn't work for me like that. Right now I'm more into songs than scores. Bad timing too, cause soon there are going to be a lot of good releases.
indy4 155
For the most part, I only listen to scores. I have a couple Weird Al and Dr. Demento CDs, a couple classical ones, and some other random ones, but I rarely listen to them.
Henry B 50
Film scores, video game scores, Broadway cast albums, songs (mostly singles I've acquired, not albums) and classical. I try to vary it up.
Bryant Burnette 654
I tend to work through various collections, but I'm not rigid. I've been going through my John Williams (I'm up to Heartbeeps), but I also just bought the new Moby CD, so I'll probably listen to that for a week or so before getting back to JW.I'm also in the middle of running through my Bob Dylan collection (I'm up to Desire). So I mix and match, but with a sort-of method. AzOutcast 122
I tend to bounce back and forth between film/video game scores and rock music.Right now I'm in rock mode and that can last a month or so, then I'll flip into score mode and listen to nothing but scores (no doubt my next score kick will being on the 20th). I've been like that as long as I can remember.
oierem 152
Classical music, basically.
Maglorfin 196
Usually I'll listen to one genre for a week or two or even a month, then switch to another. Approximately 80 % of the time I listen to soundtracks, classical music and jazz, other 20 % is mainly progressive metal and, from time to time, some rock or pop (I really like the disco -70s-80s music). Richard Penna 3,690
I only have maybe a couple of hundred 'normal' songs on here, and I generally listen to them in isolated moments as we all have moods when we need something different
Marian Schedenig 8,193
It shifts from day to day (as can be traced in my signature). But it never includes rap.
King Mark 3,631
Only Film Scores .Every day on my ipod.I don't see why a person who listens to various song "bands" would be said to have more varied tastes than someone who listens to various film composers. Also Film music crosses over many genre of music, from classical sounding to jazz sounding to modern sounding. oierem 152
Of course, because film music isn't a genere per se.
King Mark 3,631
I'd say listening to film scores only is LESS close minded than classical only,or rock only.
oierem 152
Remember that what you call "classical " music is 1000 years of music, more or less.

John Crichton 4
If I'm in a video game or TV mood I try to listen to them together, otherwise it's just film music. I also almost always listen to franchise scores together, even when they're not by the same composer like Star Trek.

Quintus 5,399
Mainly film music, but a lot of the following:Game music. The Halo Trilogy at the moment. I even like a lot of the old C64 stuff, crude by today's standards, but very nostalgic.Classical. All the clichéd famous stuff mainly. Not really a fan of the enthusiast side of the genre.Rap, Hip-Hop and R&B. Anything from Tupac, Eminem, through to Timbaland, Rihanna and even Leonna.Rock and it's many variations. The usual classic stuff like Queen and Guns N' Roses through to the more punky sound of Green Day.Pop. If a catchy song is doing well in the charts I'll normally have it in my media library. Anything good through the decades.I love the sound of the '80s. Mod, New Romantic etc.Dance music. Techno, Rave, Trance etc. Not so much these days, but for those here inexperienced in club culture, it's the loud booming music with the repetitive beat. DJ's of this music seamlessly mix different tracks together to create long uninterrupted music, which happens to be awesome to dance to whilst on amphetamines of some sort. Back in the day.Basically, I'll listen to pretty much anything if my ear likes the sound of it.
Melange 446
The DoorsGood man. Good man. Like most, I alternate between musical types. I listen to film scores fare less nowadays. I find I appreciate them more after long periods of not having listened to scores at all. It's easy to overdose on them, I find. You only appreciate water when you're thirsty. SturgisPodmore 0
I probably listen to alt. rock more than anything else, but I place greater worth on film music. I have times when I listen to lots of film music for a while, then go back to rock...it goes back and forth. Rigth now I'm on a Beatles spree. Koray Savas 2,251
Rigth now I'm on a Beatles spree. (Shocking, right?)~SturgisYou and me both!Although for the last couple days I've been all Arctic Monkeys, a modern day Beatles per se. I've come to realize nothing compares to British rock, it's the best there is.Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Elton John...Bob Dylan is my favorite artist over all, but in terms of bands, it's all of the above. Add the American The Doors and Creedence Clearwater Revival and you pretty much have the main things I listen to in addition to film music. Red 75
I also mainly listen to soundtracks, but I enjoy most genres of music (can, anyway). I'm a big fan of classic rock, and what would be considered "oldies". I can't really get into much of the modern stuff (as in the last decade or so). Marian Schedenig 8,193
Aside from Muse, I strongly recommend The Dresden Dolls. They're Boston-based, to tie them to Williams. In fact, singer/pianist/composer Amanda Palmer is scheduled for a concert with the Boston Pops later this year.
