How do you like THE EIGER SANCTION, Bes?

While nobody asked me I'll say that The Eiger Sanction is excellent!

Abzû by Austin Wintory: Such a marvelous score, a perfect spiritual companion to the composer's Journey with a similar atmospherically building dramatic arc but here given great choral colourations throughout with flutes, harp and oboe in lead soloist roles instead of cello.

What are your thoughts on the Wintory's The Rendezvous? It was quite excellent, I thought.

Honnestly I don't remember it! I don't listen to it often, because I only own an "evaluation copy"... the CD is hard to find! :D

Then you haven't evaluated it properly!

Soon the cassette is making its comeback and takes its proud place beside LP as a resurgent media format! Be sure to be among the first to welcome this revitalization!

Ok now I remember... his harpsichord era... That's good!

I'm wondering who'll make the JW cassette discography... :sarcasm:

Cassettes (and 8-tracks) were an evolution error. I simply pretend it never existed!

But you are the chosen one! You're the one who'll bring balance to the discographies.

Yes it is, but it doesn't seem to be in full 5.1. The rear speakers appear to be used to create ambience, via bleeding. As I say, though, it's a very minor gripe, in an otherwise very good recording.

This is probably my biggest disappointment with orchestral music in 5.1. Multi-channel mixes like E.T. are nothing special, Titanic is okay. And the Erich Kunzel ones sound weird. May as well listen in stereo and you're getting good fidelity. It's mixes like Chicago, Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and DSOTM where the surround effects are used effectively.

Agreed, although the 5.1 mixes of both A.I., and THE FIRST GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY are nice. DARK SIDE.... WYWH, THE DIVISION BELL,  and THE ENDLESS RIVER, are all mixed really well.

Harpsichord.. well it's just a question of balance.

By example, Bach wrote concerti for 2 and 3 harpsichords. Well, that's humor... and pedagogy, not balance. :sarcasm:

Next to the theme from 'A Summer Place' the only Steiner i can bear to listen to:

The 'Parade Through London' is one of the best-orchestrated pieces of film music ever (#Friedhofer). Not in here but in the Gerhardt recording.

Agent Cody Banks by John Powell

I'm still baffled to this day that this thing goes on for 79 minutes, and it simply doesn't get old or wear out its welcome for me. I've tried to find a shorter playlist, but I pretty much enjoy every cue! Very few scores can go over the 75 minute mark and keep my attention.

You know, you posting the pictures of your CDs makes me more jealous than you just telling us what you listened to. I love it! 😀

I'm proud to post the pics of my CDs, because I don't listen to stolen mp3; I BUY THE CDs.

And YOU WILL BUY those CDs TOO!

It's an order.  :pfft:

This forum creates a ripple effect and generally, it makes people buy more CDs.

It worked on me, it'll work on you!

Trust me, this forum (you in particular) make me want to buy more CD's. I just need some cash to spare first, but I'm working on these expenses.
