Maurizio 6,049 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/et-extra-terrestrial/2015-09-04 Quote Los Angeles Philharmonic Introduced by John Williams Bring your entire family to this extraordinary, world-premiere event, as the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs John Williams’ entire Academy Award®-winning score from Steven Spielberg’s heartwarming masterpiece about a boy and his alien friend, live-to-picture while this beloved film is shown in HD on the Bowl’s big screen. Don't miss E.T. under the stars, as you've never seen or heard it before! Looks like there will be no JW concert at the Bowl this year, but this sounds like a good alternative. It appears JW will only introduce the piece, still no info about who will conduct (maybe David Newman?) Incanus and Director of Poltergeist 2
Balahkay 629 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Awesome! At least Williams will make an appearance. Wish I could attend!
Incanus 5,858 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Cool! If I were anywhere near Los Angeles I would go. Alas again the damn Atlantic is thwarting my plans. Bilbo 1
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Useless body of water!
Marian Schedenig 10,384 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Remember the good ol' Pangaea days? Jesus could just have ridden his velociraptor straight to the Bowl. Brando and ChrisAfonso 1 1
Director of Poltergeist 8,220 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 They better project this in the sky at the end. Anyway, I'm certainly going.
scallenger 643 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I'm on the fence about going. Mostly because the last two times I have gone to the bowl I went alone, and being about 3 hours away from there I guess I feel like I lack the energy to do it all alone again. I think it WOULD be an amazing thing to see, though! I wonder why Williams isn't performing at the bowl this year. Or why he chose not to conduct it himself. I guess it's still nice that he'll be introducing it.
Foxfan 210 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I am seriously considering this if I can get a reward flight.
Director of Poltergeist 8,220 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I'm local, so let's try our best to arrange a JWFan meetup. It's the greatest score and film of all time.
The Psycho Pianist 220 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Why would he be there and introduce it but not conduct? Seems a strange arrangement to me. Would be a disappointment if he didn't conduct it.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Because conducting takes more time in prep and rehearsal? It's not like "well, since i showed up on the big day I might as well take the baton!"
The Psycho Pianist 220 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Because conducting takes more time in prep and rehearsal? It's not like "well, since i showed up on the big day I might as well take the baton!"I guess so. You'd have thought he would want to do it though, then again the full E.T. score (if that's what it is) is quite a daunting amount of music to play live and in sync with the picture.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Well he did it once before in 2002.Maybe his schedule just doesnt permit it
Demondm810 437 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Looks like I'm going to be going to this. Looking forward to it!
Jay 43,039 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 FYI, there's an Intrada Meet-up in Los Angeles that same weekend!http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6776
Demondm810 437 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Woah! If I can snag a ticket I'll definitely go.
Jay 43,039 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'd seriously considering another LA trip for that weekend if it wasn't my wedding weekend
BloodBoal 7,544 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'd seriously considering another LA trip for that weekend if it wasn't my wedding weekend It's going to be awesome! Already booked my flight. Can't wait to be there!
Balahkay 629 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Given Williams has canceled his Tanglewood appearances, I wonder if he will still introduce the concert?
Joni Wiljami 1,237 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 William Ross will do it but its written by John Williams.
Balahkay 629 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Is Williams still attending as far as we know?
Ricard 2,380 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 As far as we know, he's still expected to introduce the performance.http://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwclassical/article/LA-Phil-to-Perform-John-Williams-Score-from-ET-at-the-Hollywood-Bowl-94-6-20150820But he doesn't need to attend in order to do so...
Popular Post BloodBoal 7,544 Posted August 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 23, 2015 Yes! Jilal, Incanus, ChrisAfonso and 4 others 7

I was assuming he would be there in person. I guess it isn't likely for him to be there in person to introduce each day.

Hoping those assurances are still correct.
Balahkay 629 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Is anyone going to this? I may go to the concert in San Antonio if time allows.
The Psycho Pianist 220 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Is anyone going to this? I may go to the concert in San Antonio if time allows.I'm going! Disappointed that it couldn't be Williams' standard Hollywood Bowl performance, but I saw it last year so at least I was able to see him once live. This should be very cool to watch, and will be good to compare it to the Royal Albert Hall performance live to score of Raiders which I'm also attending next year.

Demondm810 437 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Damn. Still should be amazing though. I'm going tomorrow night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Balahkay 629 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Too bad he won't be there in person. Hopefully some video will be posted this weekend of his intro and the actual concert.
ChrisAfonso 222 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I'll also be there tonight, this is a great event to finish a great vacation Didn't really plan ahead, but there were a good number of seats still available as of yesterday, for the spontaneous-minded.
Director of Poltergeist 8,220 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Ugh premature clapping (and screaming) during the best part of the entire score.
Popular Post ChrisAfonso 222 Posted September 6, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 6, 2015 Williams's introductory video message: (sorry about the cut beginning) crumbs, Ricard, Incanus and 1 other 4
Tom 5,731 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Good to see he looks healthy, even if his voice is not what it once was.
mrbellamy 7,455 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 He seems okay but very tired. Hope he's well.
Director of Poltergeist 8,220 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Shut up! Not Mr. Big 1
crumbs 15,546 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Maybe he's just tired from the extensive TFA recording process? And recovering from his procedure?
Director of Poltergeist 8,220 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I agree. The Star Wars introduction was cause for alarm, but he just seems normal here.
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I wouldn't say "normal" but yes, he does sound a bit better than in the Comic Con video.
Balahkay 629 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 That's a healthy man in the video. In both videos he looks healthy, just maybe under the weather in the Comic Con video. If we were looking at a seriously ill man, it would be very obvious. He probably wouldn't even be doing these introductions if he was seriously ill. Back issues can be and are very debilitating (especially at 83) and traveling and standing for long periods of time can worsen the condition.
