No one complains about the TMP cover art that has the exact same people on it.

You might want to double check the woman on there.

I don't know why they even bothered putting characters on the TMP poster art...everyone knows it's all about shots of the Enterprise and a purple cloud. :D

Not the same woman, but good point, though. It is analogous, with Kirk, Spock, and Ilia. Still, TMP gets bonus points for being a friggin' awesome painting by Bob Peak, and rendered by an actual human hand with physical paint media.

Zoë Saldaña should be the only person on the cover in any perfect universe.

Maybe the next Trek movie should have its soundtracks released by Playboy. Would you like that?

I bet that'll be the first time nobody complains about poster foldouts, wallpapers or screensavers.

Mine arrived today!

The packaging is nice I have to admit -- although the 'widescreen' presentation makes it kind of a sore thumb (sticking out and all).

And yeah, it feels reminiscent of TPM:UE even down to the unnecessary picture book being attached to the case.

But (for the most part) they got it right where it counts -- the music.

And as I haven't seen the movie, I'm hearing all these new cues for the first time just now and really digging it.

It's a bit disorienting having all this new music and then having the familiar bits pop up here and there.

I imagine I'll get over that soon enough.

Chutes and Matter :D

The track titles are much better.

Posted

And while we're at it, so is the CD artwork.

Posted

Good points on both accounts. While this does reminiscent of TPM:UE at least it's NOT another TPM: UE.

Then again had the Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition been assembled like this we wouldn't have complained all that much.

It's an ST:DE.

Um.. with arround 20 minutes of unreleased unused music? Yes we would ;)

And furthermore, the Inclussion of 'iconinc' tracked main titles could mean of some iconic tracked music from TPM would be like that too. Lets say... duel of the fates into the duel scenes...

Definately with narada bing not there in its entirety, we would get final versions and not Williams original cohesive inteneded score...

People would complain of the omission of the sith wispers... or maybe not.

At least it would have a great soun mix as oposed to ST :D

No I meant had it been edited as the intended edition or close to it like Star Trek's D.E. is.

Ahhh, that makes sense.

If you look at the pictures, not everyone was isolated

http://www.scoringse...sessions/24544/

I was amused that the concertmaster was identified in those pictures. I never really thought a Hollywood scoring orchestra, which never actually performs concerts, would even have that position.

Zoe what's-her-face who plays Uhura is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, so I have no problems with her being on the cover... :)

She's pretty, sure, but a little too skinny. She needs to eat a cheeseburger or two.

Posted

Most of the "most beautiful women on the planet" could stand to gain a pound or two. Zoe's no Keira, though.

Oh wow...they used a Wagner Tuba in the recording. Never noticed it in the music!

My wife called me at work and said I have a package from Michael Giacchino..........

Did you get one of the autographed ones from the FSM thread?

Less than 500 copies remaining in stock at Varese.

Yes.

Pictures to follow later tonight.

Posted

Me too. :)

I'm curious to see where he signed it. I want to shadowbox it like I did the Anthology book I had Williams sign.

Posted

Nice place for him to sign it..are you still gonna do a box shadow?

Posted

Yes.

I want to protect it.

Posted

Damn, next time he's at Dark Dell, I'm bringing my copy.

I'm green enough with jealousy you'd think I was of Orion descent :)

Nice one.:)

I still wonder if this had been released by Sony if it had been another Phantom Menace: Ultimate Edition, complete with micro-edits, looped material and such. Maybe touted with the lines, "Every note the composer wrote for!" like the Phantom Menace U.E.

Very cool, Mark!

Well, i dont know what happened about the choir. I didnt had the guts to ask RObert townson of giacchino about that (it may upset them...)

But I saw that Andrea Datzman (Giacchino's score coordinator and sometimes orchestrator) is part of Page La Studio (the choir). Could this choir be part of Edgewater studios or be also related to giacchino in some extent?

I would be strange that the fees for them would be so high then... Also there didnt look to be any problems with the choir in Speed racer and Land of the lost, both by them too.

Posted

Mark, I hope your fingers were clean when you touched the top left corner of the signed artifact, instead of the edge. Didn't you ever collect signed baseball cards?

Posted

Did nobody dare ask Townson about Spartacus, the missing elements in Star Trek, or the incomplete "The Incident" prologue? Seriously? Wusses! :)

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense that some scores are seemingly released with no problem, then a popular one comes along and suddenly Varese can't afford it.

Plus most of Powell's recent efforts have had full CD releases, usually with a large choir. What's going on there?

This has less than 100 copies remaining now.

Impressive. They should go fast now, as people holding off suddenly realise they need to get it

Unfortunately it does also mean that the missing choir hasn't killed sales, meaning they might do that again.

Congrats to Varese on another job well done.

I think some people may be pissed about this little bit on info on the PR for the upcoming release of The Tudors: Season 3

Composer Trevor Morris won the 2007 Emmy Award for Best Theme for The Tudors and his music for Season 3, now expanded to feature a regal and haunting choir, exhibits his best work yet.

Guess Giacchino isn't good enough but Trevor Morris is. :)

Congrats to Varese on another job well done.

Indeed. Quibbles aside it's a fine release of a great score.

It is cool to see this went in almost 2 months. I bet those who waited on whether or not to get it are kicking themselves in the ass right now. Hope they can still get it at the other outlets before they run out of stock.

Yeah this is all starting to seem weird. Powell has no problems getting choir, TV scores get choir, but 6 cues in Trek where the choir sings for only seconds at a time? No can do.

Maybe the union wanted more money because of how lucrative the franchise is?

Gotta hand it to varese through - they sold 5000 copies in two months. Nice work.

Posted

Sure, but Star Trek was recorded in 2008 and The Last Airbender was recorded in 2010, and plenty of scores recorded in between had choir.

Man, if the choir is "haunting" it's gotta be good.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a rat's patootie the choir isn't there?

<puts feet up>

Josh, a poll, if you please.
