Well, if Schindler's List used a sweeping love story to make the public realize the tragedy of the drama, it would've been a chick flick too. I felt the romance (a puppy love romance, no less) overpowered the drama. IMO, of course. Alex
I like Titanic, especially once it hits the iceberg. I love to sit and watch a master action director orchestrate this big showcase of disaster and suspense, I love watching him exercising his panache for technical storytelling, the beats and the crescendos, I find it absolutely fascinating. But the movie has a lot of unnecessary bloat that's for sure, as well as a couple of really bad scenes (spitting tuition???). I think the movie would be much tighter if it ditched its old Rose bookends. It still would have been an effective movie.
Assuming it worked (I haven't checked yet), I recorded all of Williams talking on my phone. I'll transcribe it all and post my thoughts on the concert as soon as I have a chance.
Why would't give it a vote then? I voted for the Book Thief. It is very strong century this far. I'm sure this is going to be better than the 90's. Easily.
I voted Tintin on Jason's poll and I still give it the edge here for its color, exuberance, and re-playability. After that it's hard to decide, I enjoy The Book Thief's delicacy, Lincoln's elegance, and War Horse's shamelessness in roughly equal measure. Excited as always for the Cold War thriller, Star Wars VII, The BFG and beyond!
