Romão got a reaction from Delorean90 in Jurassic Park 20th Anniversary OST (Digital only release)
Well, all this hype made revisit the score (with which, like most of you, I am greatly familiar) ad what struck is how varied and ecltectic this score really is. You get everything from angelic choir (Hatching Baby Raptor), pulsatic syncopathic synth suspense (Dennis Steals the Embyo . and what a wonderful piece of mickey mousing this is within the movie), manic dangerous suspensed(High Wire Stunts), an modernistic and highly impressionist horror cue (Raptor Attack), a very nostalgic and touching lullaby (Remembering Petticoat Lane), a jungly, tribalesque cue (Jurassic Park Gate), an enobling cue for the dinosaus (My Friend, the Brachiosaurus), absolutely exhilarating action cue (T-rex Rescue and Finale), and I could go on and on, but there aren't many scores with so many different colors and moods.

Romão got a reaction from oierem in The Phantom Menace by John Williams is a prime example of effective texture and atmosphere
Actually, I think JW gave each planet and culture in TPM a very clear musical character, not a necessarly thematic one, but in terms of orchestration and color. Those Roman textures as you put it, are clearly associated with Coruscant and the feeling of this milenary Republic. You have many great examples of this in the scene when Padme calls for a vote of no confidence or when they meet Vallorum after landing on Coruscant.
On the other hand, Naboo has a also very clear musical character, very evident in the scene when Padme confronts the Trade Federation by via com or the scenes in Otoh Gunga. The music sounds so green, ecologic, aquatic, verdant. It's endlessly fascinating

Yes I though I'd rather use my real name from now on

Romão got a reaction from Marian Schedenig in Prometheus Records & Tadlow to start new series of recording Goldsmith Scores
I don't mean to say that an original recording cannot be the best recording. But I don't think the contrary is untrue either. These are symphonic music works, that envolve the tinniest details in orchestration and interpretation. Any new recording can bring something new to the table, and are, thefore, most welcome, for they can often times offer new often better interpretations of the music. And in case of older scores, you get better sound to boot.
Being the original recording does not assure anything at all, quality wise

Romão got a reaction from Incanus in What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
The Adventures of Tintin
It's been a while since I listened to it, and it's one of my absolute favorites. The freshness of it, the instrumental performances, the thematic writing, this whole thing oozes class and panache. It's just a terrific display of talent. And those two first tracks are absolute killers

Romão got a reaction from mahler3 in Twin Peaks - am I the only one?
I still consider it the greatest TV show I have ever seen. Before the grand finale, there are 6 or 7 filler episodes that I could do without, but all the rest is pure gold. And Fire Wal with Me elevates the whole thing even more

Romão got a reaction from KK in Upcoming Films
I'd hate seeing Batman next to all those superpowered characters. It just undermines the character so much and it simply doesn't fit tonaly. I've never even liked it in the comics

I also agree Inception is one of the great Zimmer scores, and an example where his sensibiliaties were spot on

Romão got a reaction from Ren in The Hobbit Film Trilogy Thread
This is no longer about making a great film based on a book, but trying to cram as much material as possible. But PJ has already graduated with honors in making false endings and streching simple stories to ridiculous lengths

Romão got a reaction from crocodile in The Dark Knight Rises
Rottentomatoes can be very misleading and the percentage thing tends to hurt more divisive movies, that get very high and very low grades. A movie can get mostly average reviews and still have a very high tomatometer. And also movies get reviewed in relation to what preceded them, that's why lackluster (IMH) blockbusters like Star Trek and Avengers get such high ratings.

Romão got a reaction from Ricard in [4:11-5:22] of The Siege of Gondor
I don't particularly like the movies nor the the scores. They both fit in the "could have been worse, should've been better" category
