TFA OST
Still great! Great track-to-track flow and sound quality.

Not Mr. Big reacted to crumbs in What to expect from Episode VIII's Score?
Rey's Theme definitely personifies the maturity of JW's current output. He's long transcended the concept of "film music," but his concert pieces now transcend the films for which they are written. Their level of complexity, the depth of orchestration, the precision of his writing, he simply doesn't waste a note.
Personally, I don't believe Williams could write a piece like Rey's Theme even ten years ago. It's a work that reflects his stature and experience, without an inch of cynicism or the seeming ease of the bombastic writing he traditionally revels in with this series (see March of the Resistance).
Suffice to say, I might actually be anticipating The Last Jedi even more than I was The Force Awakens. Williams is now building off his solid base of musical foundations, alongside a director whose output surely ranks as some of the most promising of any young modern filmmaker.

I have UNDER FIRE on not very often but whenever i do, i pray to the gods to bestow upon us another composer of Jerry Goldsmith's caliber.

I'd like to see John Powell scoring this.

Well, it's hard to disagree with what he says.

Not Mr. Big reacted to Dixon Hill in Saving Private Ryan
I like the brass chorale moment in the Hymn. Oddly though I prefer one of those compilation performance versions of that moment, where the brass sounds much richer. Love the violins during the climax as well, great counterpoint that's playful without at all going against the reverence of the piece.

Not Mr. Big reacted to Dixon Hill in JWFAN Members Bottom 10 John Williams scores lists
How do you define weakest?
I would be hard pressed to class anything as weakest other than much of what you enjoy most from him - that is, music for both the cinema and concert hall from the early years, until perhaps some point in the early 70s, when he was still very much in a formative phase and lacked so much of the utterly individual Williams sound that I value so much. I would not think to tell you that your fondness is misplaced, but I do think it's hard to damn much else of his work as "weakest" - from a composer's perspective.
Or should I perhaps not get into such a discussion with Thor?

Not Mr. Big got a reaction from Loert in The Classical Music Recommendation Thread
Not sure which thread to put this. Great "strolling music", very relaxing and easy to listen to. I particularly love "Old Beirut"

It's definitely one of my 3 favorite T.Newman scores.

- The BFG: um, ok
- Earthquake / Poseidon Adventure / Towering Inferno (never quite got the love for the main title for this last one in particular): TTI is hugely overrated, Earthquake great fun
- The Cowboys (generally I find Williams' americana westerns to be largely unimpressive and boring, apart from Missouri Breaks but that's another whole beast) were there any beyond The Cowboys?
- The River it's not wholly successful but has lovely parts - and is one of the increasingly rare post-SW instances of a different Williams
- Home Alone (both) - and by extension the first two Potter scores when they channel that sound while they can become overkill, especially in their overt sweetness, i would rate them as prime examples of Williams' russian style; not liking this basically means not liking huge parts of his whole output
- Amistad (apart from Sierra Leone and some other track which I dig a lot, I really hate how eclectic it is. I mean, there are lots of eclectic JW scores out there, two which I love that are JP and POA but this one... sheesh... I don't know, it just doesn't flow) sort of, though there still are at least some respectable highlights
- Stepmom (the cringe is real) it's boring but not in an unpleasant way, still, yes

Not Mr. Big reacted to Once in The Kidnapping of Edgarto Mortara
But Spielberg confirmed that one.
I'd much rather have Bridge of Spies than The BFG.

Not Mr. Big reacted to crumbs in The Kidnapping of Edgarto Mortara
Of all Spielberg's films in the last 4 decades, if I had to pick one to miss out on a John Williams score? It's Bridge of Spies.

Im looking forward to hearing the Hymn from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN..I never liked that film recording that was done at Boston Hall. It was to distant and reverby. I hope the acoustics are well catured this time.

The Great Wall by Ramin Djawadi.
There were some moments of beauty in the score, but I found most of it to be way too generic.
