Bilbo reacted to Edmilson in Harry Potter TV Series in the works
Yeah, I can see everything post-Azkaban being too creepy for small children.
I read the first five books between the ages of 8 to 10, so I was a little older than my cousin's son.

Yes! This is absolutely the same scenario I run into! 😂
but like, the last half hour of Goblet would be terrifying for a kid! And Azkaban has its moments and that’s before you get to the more mature 5-7!

I’m still hoping the report is wrong and they’ll do a Hogwarts Legacy style original story. I think that would be the best case scenario.
There’s also the advantage of casting 15/16 year olds as your main characters rather than starting at 11, and you get to use familiar designs and locations which still make up the look of theme parks, and tourist attractions. Rings of Power is half original half trying to be the PJ films and it sucks at both. There’s a big chance the WB makes the same mistakes as Amazon here.
If you go back far enough you don’t have to worry about prequelitis and have to shoehorn in characters from the movies.
A remake of the books this soon after something that was such so iconic and a worldwide phenomenon just seems so strange to me and screams bad ideas. The people I’ve worked with have young kids who aren’t old enough to read who are obsessed with the films and Harry Potter Lego. I think you need to build on what’s already there rather than the reboot.

I just worry they’ll give it to someone like Balfe. That would be worst case scenario score wise and entirely possible.

Bilbo got a reaction from Nick1Ø66 in Amazon buys up Middle-earth, it searches the One Ring! (Rings of Power news thread)
Amazon axing the book depository as a cost saving measure seems dumb. Surely they should just cancel Rings of Power instead? Would save them a fortune.

Isn’t it HBO Max produced rather than regular HBO?
This article is better than the one in the OP and it addresses a few misconceptions people have

Bilbo reacted to Not Mr. Big in Avatar 2, 3 and 4 or how James Cameron stopped worrying and pulled The Hobbit on us
I don't like when people refer to Na'vi as "blue people". Feels like a slur

Indeed.
Go the House of the Dragon route and simply accept the inevitable truth…you’re never going to find a better theme, so why try?

It's not her "publishing" company, and this has nothing to do with her books. It's her production company, which handles things like the Strike TV series and the HP stage play. And most of the decline is attributed to COVID.
Her books sales (along with Hogwart's Legacy), much to the disappointment of many, apparently weren't impacted by the boycotts against her.
In any event, it's not like Jo's short of cash.

Because some of those ideas are seriously questionable? Honest to god: given so much of recent events, I'm half-convinced she stopped properly caring about the franchise a while ago, and only really is using it to go into avenues she hadn't prior into her career. A stage play? Sounds neat as hell, so we'll think of a premise that allows us to revisit past events without actually changing the current status quo much. A prequel movie franchise? We'll mash different premises together without any consideration over if they make any real sense being paired up.
It really feels like it's just about the opportunities presented, and nothing more. All for the sake of keeping the franchise afloat, since heaven knows Joanne ain't gonna write another proper novel for it anytime soon. Hell, given the recent news about her publishing company being down 70% in profit, the timing is almost suspicious.

Same. It just feels too soon for this.
Since Jo is on board I’d rather a fresh story from her and then maybe experienced TV people to run it and develop it for her.
But the milking of franchises is getting a bit stale now. Can we not get something new?

Bilbo got a reaction from enderdrag64 in New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movies in the Works at Warners, New Line
The Ian Nathan book is a frustratingly bad book. He has so much access to the film makers but largely just regurgitates stuff from the DVDs and other books.
It’s so all over the place. Like literally. At one stage he’s going “chronologically” through the shoot. He gets to August, talks about how busy everyone is… and then goes on to talk about Andrew Lesnie being hired in May 1999. The whole book is all over the place in its scope and timeline. It’s far more about the business of making the films rather than the actual making of the films. And he’s a very poor writer. But unfortunately, he thinks he’s the dog’s bollocks.
A Rinzler style look at the films would be amazing and hopefully someday it will happen. But hopefully Ian Nathan is done with middle-earth.
The Sibley book is great though!

Bilbo got a reaction from Jay in What Is The Last Film You Watched? (2023 Films)
Yes. The filmed in the Old Town of Dubrovnik for seasons 2-7 but you can’t blow that up and stuff so they built a giant city set in Belfast near the studios. It’s still standing, just across the road from the Titanic Museum. I saw it after the last season wrapped but before it aired and last year (after filming for this movie had wrapped.)
