Knowing was a hit when it was released in the spring of 2009, starring Nicolas Cage as an MIT astrophysics professor trying to decipher a prophecy of numbers that eerily predict worldwide disasters. Directed by Alex Proyas (The Crow), the film features Cage in a race against time with the entire human race at stake.
Reuniting with Proyas from I, Robot was composer Marco Beltrami, who provided Knowing with a powerful score at turns suspenseful, terrifying, pulse-pounding and action-packed. Recorded with a large orchestra in Australia, the score also has poignant emotional moments and a grand scope befitting the film’s apocalyptic implications.
Knowing was released by Varèse Sarabande as a single CD at the time of the film. This 2CD Deluxe Edition nearly doubles the playing time, and features new liner notes by Daniel Schweiger incorporating interviews with Beltrami and his co-composers, Buck Sanders and Marcus Trumpp.

LIONHEART (Goldsmith) THE DELUXE EDITION 2-CD
Original Motion Picture Score

Jerry Goldsmith reinvented himself numerous times over his storied career, but one of his most popular periods was for the 1980s wave of large-scale symphonic scores. Lionheart (1987) came at the crest of this glorious period, and saw his rousing symphonic style—with glorious melodies, dazzling orchestrations, and synthesized embellishments—tackle a young-adult adventure in the Crusades.
Lionheart marked Goldsmith’s final collaboration with his friend and most prolific director collaborator, Franklin Schaffner (Planet of the Apes, Patton, Islands in the Stream). The film starred Eric Stoltz as the leader of a Children’s Crusade of orphans against Gabriel Byrne as an evil Black Prince. Little-seen today, the project is perhaps best-known for Goldsmith’s magnificent score, which he recorded with the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra; its stirring, noble main theme made its way into Goldsmith’s concert repertoire.
Varèse Sarabande’s album producers in 1987 adored the Lionheart score so much that they released not one but two volumes of vinyl LPs. Most, but not all, of the tracks were released on a single CD compilation in 1994. Now, this 2CD Deluxe Edition presents the complete contents of both LPs, in film sequence, and adds two additional, previously unreleased cues. Because the new cues are sourced from reference material, they are labeled as “bonus tracks” at the end of a shorter-than-expected disc one, so as to remain in chronological order. The new liner notes are by Tim Greiving.

EhTar got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in The Official Varese Sarabande Thread
Except for its very last scene, which sooo cheesy,
Knowing is a brillant movie. And such is the score. One of the best from Mr Beltrami with Scream, Mimic, Hellboy and Gods of Egypt if you ask me. Ordered !
My copy of the 1994 edition of Lionheart was signed by Goldsmith in London, UK on March 5, 1999. So I'll keep it but I also ordered the new 2-CD set.

Agreed, it's one of my favorite Beltrami scores and I haven't heard it in a long time. Great opportunity to revisit it!
Also agreed. Damn. Maybe I should rewatch it this weekend. It's been awhile!

I thought the film was surprisingly good up until the last handful of scenes as well. Among the “best” of Nic Cage’s aughts efforts.

Cool! I got both releases! Great to have Lionheart finally in my collection in this expanded form.
I also have quite a bit of fondness for Beltrami's score for Knowing. Some parts strongly remind me of Williams War of the Worlds, especially the more kinetic action music (also obvious Herrmann references in the score as well).

Wow! Didn't realize how much of an exciting weekend we're in for!
Probably will miss out on the fun tomorrow (absolutely swamped with work), but I'll be around on Saturday. Looking forward to it!

Oh, for sure! But that would be a separate post from the monthly flyer, and would arrive closer to the May 11 or May 25 release dates.
This Saturday I'd only expect a monthly flyer that will look like the 7 examples above.

EhTar reacted to Jay in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
I know of one title that began life intended to be an x0 or x5 anniversary edition, so much time passed before getting all the approvals that it became a title celebrating the next x0 or x5 anniversary... and then missed that too....
There's lots of different approvals a title might have to go through.
The owner of the elements (the film studio) has to grant a license.
If there was an OST album, the music label has to grant a license, and a contract between the film studio, the music label, and LLL has to be signed by all 3 parties
The film studio has to approve the release of a transfer of the elements, and might require payment for doing the transfer.
Then you can finally go and take those transfers and get them into shape, then edit them into a new album, then master that album
The composer might have to sign off on the program if they are alive and want to.
The film studio might want to look at a text copy of the liner notes before approving them. Another party might want to also (I think Spielberg approves the liners of all his titles)
The film studio typically will only allow you to put images into a booklet that you pay them for, from a group of photos they provide. Want to use something from the film that isn't in their official archive? You might be out of luck, depending on the studio
Now the booklet can be created digitally by by art director, which then has to go through more approvals, including one branch of the film studio to make sure all the legalese is correct, and another that the entire package is acceptable. The music label might have to approve the final packaging too
Along the way, you might have to get other approvals too, depending on the title. Maybe a big name actor who you might want to put on the cover, maybe the film's director, maybe somebody else (JK Rowling had to approve the Potter box).
A big cause delays can be if the soundtrack will contain anything not written by the composer, or otherwise not part of the normal scoring sessions. Say an important pop/rock song that is key to the music of the film... Or say the score itself incorporates the melody of an existing song onto it. Lawyers can get all up in a tizzy about this stuff and delay titles for years while it's worked out.
Even after all that, you might have no choice about which pressing plant to use, because the signed contract might include a clause about using a certain one that the film studio or music label has some financial interest in, so then you might have to "wait in line" there for a while if they are busy pressing other things they consider "more important" (IE, will sell more copies).
I don't think any of the people approving these things think of things in that way at all. That's more of a personal connection, like what JW has with MM. JW is more likely to approve more and more bonus tracks on MM releases than in the past because he trusts MM to show his work in the best possible light, indeed. But that's just one approval.
All these other approvals, its a rotating door of people moving through the corporate system and having different jobs at different times. People who really know their stuff and makes things easy for the label may one day get promoted to another position, and the new guy might not have a clue or really understand why he's spending time on things that will literally not make his giant corporation any noticeable money.
It's a crazy business.

Yup. Don't forget that in July 2019 they shared this poster celebrating 500 titles, after LLLCD 1500 (Planet of the Apes boxset) was announced:
http://johndadlez.com/pix/LLL_500_releases-final-01.jpg
That poster shows, in order, LLLCD 1001 through 1500, which included 3 titles that hadn't been announced before the poster dropped
