I don't own the original OST, so I happily ordered this Deluxe Edition. The fact the final part of the score was MIA has always disturbed me, so I am waiting for such an edition on CD since... 2003.
 
I am curious about the samples, which I found not very well chosen (they doesn't show the potential of this score IMHO), but maybe it's just me.

I do prefer the sound of the 1994 expanded reissue. There's something strange in the 2014 edition to my ears. Just my 2 cents.

Guys dont worry about JEDI. Better quality tapes were found and are in safe hands. Thats All I have to say.

No, the different parts are unique recordings, not edits.  I guess Spielberg re-edited the scene and new music had to be recorded
 
 
The OST track called "Abandoned in the Woods" (now disc 3 track 13 of the LLL set) is

Basically, the main program version is all the correct takes as used in the film, plus the unused long ending from the original 3M7, while the Alternate is anything that was recorded that was different from what was in the main program
 
Essentially 0:00-0:30 and 2:50-end are completely different between the two tracks, and 0:30-2:50 are basically the same

Out of all the Williams scores that received some sort of expansion already (not counting FYCs), the ones I'd most want to be revisited for a new definitive edition would be
 
1) Last Crusade
2)Temple of Doom
3) Phantom Menace
4) Hook
5) Return of the Jedi
6) Empire Strikes Back
7) Raiders
8) Star Wars
 

Phantom Menace is way more frustrating AINEC
 
It's full of awful sounding film edits, loops, and tracking - plus several highlights of the score that Lucas happened to not use in the film are simply missing
 
Hook is sloppy and inconsistent in sound quality, but at least everything other than a few spots come from unedited original session recordings - and every major narrative beat of the score is there (barring the triumphant version of the Lost Boys theme recorded for the aftermath Hook's death).  You can at least change the track order to get a pretty satisfying journey though the score, despite the abrupt change in sound quality for the second half of the Ultimate War of course.

Both scores deserve better versions to made, certainly, but one is in way worse shape than the other for the time being

Last summer, MV on FSM said it could be back in LLL's catalog when I asked him about.

The movie was released today in France. I just saw it. I won't say anything else. NO SPOILER here.
About the music, the movie is mixed so loud on the sound effects that it's hard, very hard, to hear the music, except for few scenes. For example, scenes where the love theme, very Korngoldian, can be heard -- and the opening scene, with the probable first exposition of what John Williams wrote for "The Adventures of Han". I can't wait to be able to listen to the CD. I was waiting for more reprises from the material Williams wrote over the years but there are just smart quotes, at the right moments (I can't say more now).
 
I would say it's a more modern SW score, but still in the codes of the saga, musicaly speaking.
 
John Powell has done a superb job, tipping his hat to Williams' work, bringing his own signature in terrific ways (of the Force).
 
And yes, the movie is good!
