Cerebral Cortex reacted to Jay in Michael Giacchino's Inside Out (2015)
After seeing the film, here's my revised theme list.

15 Down In The Dumps 1:35-1:40

11 Chasing The Pink Elephant 0:04-1:55
14 Imagination Land 0:06-1:25
Third Act Ostinato
19 We Can Still Stop Her 0:00-0:50, 1:00-1:25, 1:47-2:30
22 Chasing Down Sadness 0:00-0:50
There really isn't any unreleased music in the film; the OST should be pretty close to complete apart from maybe a few really short cues and some source music (Joy playing accordion and Bing Bong's song; TripleDent Gum Jingle is on the OST in full).
Also my physical copy arrived from Amazon today. It comes in an old school black jewel case rather than a clear one - haven't seen one of these in a while!
The CD contains a bonus track that isn't on the digital release, though Giacchino had nothing to do with it and it's not from Inside Out. It's the music for the short film, Lava, that plays in front of the film in theaters. Its not score, but a song. The song was nice in the short, but I dunno how often I'll want to listen to on its own.
The front and back cover is designed to be like an LP for whatever reason.
The booklet contains a nice note from Pete Docter, the AFM musicians list, and all the lyrics to the Lava song.
Also in the credits, I noticed that TripleDent Gum Jingle wasn't written by Giacchino; it says music by Andrea Datzman, lyrics by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson.

Cerebral Cortex reacted to mrbellamy in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (JJ Abrams 2015)
I know they're just stumping for the film, but it's nice that Williams and now Kasdan do seem to genuinely be enjoying both the process and what the film is turning into so far. Also encouraging that Kasdan's praise wasn't even provoked by the interviewer.

I'd prefer if we kept leaked info and photos behind spoiler tags, personally...

I thought this was kind of awesome.

Cerebral Cortex reacted to Incanus in R.I.P. Sir Christopher Lee
In honor of Christopher Lee I'll paraphrase some Tolkien:
To Christopher
When dawn in England still was grey
to many actor this so dear
on Sunday morn he went away,
a career long that seeks it's peer.
From Middle-earth to horror's heart
from epic grand to drama's thrill
through villain's role and hero's part
and many more he played with skill.
With gaffers, DPs, actors too,
with directors, producer folk,
with film buff many, fanboys true
in more than seven tongues he spoke.
A forceful glare, the kindly hand,
a mind that carried stories all;
a trumpet-voice, a burning brand,
true gentleman this modest, tall.
A lord of wisdom on/off-screen,
he seldom angered, always wise
an old man though he might have been
a spirit young was in his eyes.
He led a life of legend's true
expectations all he still defies;
in films and living shone it through
a soul that truly sought the skies.
The finest roles you've ever seen:
and some that better could have been,
He played them all now's time for rest
he'll sail on white ship to the West.

Cerebral Cortex reacted to Matt C in Jurassic World (Jurassic Park 4)
It is, by a large margin. And it's not shown in the trailers, only hinted at.
That in itself is refreshing, in an age where every other movie gives away major plot points and/or action scenes in the trailers.

I'm more interested in what put it to sleep. Was it the Prequels?

Seems like only John Williams knows how to use John Williams themes. I am reminded of this Don Davis quote whenever I hear a failed/awkward take on material like this:

True or false, I was never dubious that this combo, John/JJ would be failure.

LOOKS LIKE OUR FIRST STOP ON THE WAY TO DISAPPOINTMENT IS FEAR!
John Williams has only written a majority of the music!
Next Stop: UNCERTAINTY!

Cerebral Cortex reacted to Muad'Dib in Jurassic World (Jurassic Park 4)
I couldn't resist and I went to see it today. I had the perfect experience, no annoying commentators or chewing people, it was just right.
Let me just say that after 14 years of wait, it was worth it. I left the theatre with a smile from ear to ear, had it all the way home and still I'm smiling like an idiot.
It had its flaws, but all around it was a great popcorn movie. I'll comment more as people see it, the only downside were the cinematography (in night scenes was fine, but I really didn't like the day light) and the CGI wasn't as perfect as it could have been. Still, it returned to the more light horror roots of the original two movies, and I fucking loved that.
8/10 from me, I'm going to see it again with friends no doubt.
PS: *The* scene with the animatronic was brilliant. Wish we had had more of that!

Well plans have changed again and now I'm actually seeing the film in 20 minutes! 3D though, unfortunately. Would have had to wait 90 mins for a 2D showing. But hey, this place serves beer!

Cerebral Cortex reacted to Gruesome Son of a Bitch in Anyone else think the Star Trek: First Contact Main Title is glorious?
I remember seeing First Contact on opening night when I was 9 years old. It had the right logo and fanfare to begin and then a peculiar opening title sequence ensues with names coming into focus, nothing particularly remarkable or Star Trek about it. But that music had me completely floored. I immediately needed the soundtrack. Shit, not since Star Wars had opening titles gotten me so amped up, you know? That Main Title is some of the best fucking shit I've ever heard. I get off on it.
What a legend.

Cerebral Cortex reacted to igger6 in Michael Giacchino's Jurassic World (2015)
I second Henry's observations about the Williams quotes in those two tracks. I love the equal-opportunity spirit Giacchino shows toward quoting in this score; except for the wholesale reprise in "Welcome to Jurassic World" and the arguably unimaginative island theme quote in "As the Jurassic World Turns," there's some nice, subtle nods to the earlier scores that feel intelligent rather than obligatory.

Cerebral Cortex reacted to Tom in The Force Awakens begins recording at Sony in LA today
To throw out a general question, wouldn't it be a wise marketing move to allow/encourage Williams to perform a concert version of a SW7 piece at Tanglewood? He did it with ESB and again with Harry Potter, though the main theme of the latter was already present in the trailers. It spoils nothing (assuming they keep titles vague), it is free, and the music, as it will be good, will provide positive exposure for the movie (as those concerts are always broadcast and personal recordings).

Well, here's my theme list. I've been working on this since yesterday, and when I saw that leeallen01 posted his own list, I got motivated to finish it up.
