Brundlefly got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Jerry Goldsmith: Unpopular Opinions
I prefer Tora! Tora! Tora! over Patton. I don't understand why the latter is that popular. However, the former's blend of japanese and atonal rythm-based music, its anomalous instrumentation and the occasional detuning is far more gripping in my opinion, although it's weird as shit (even weirder than Link and Logan's Run).

I consider 100 Rifles one of Goldsmith's greatest efforts. (Is that unpopular at all?)

So it is not known at this point, when the next batch will come?

Small Soldiers, The Cowboys AND Air Force One in one year? That'd be a kickass year for Varese!

Are you seriously complaining about this one friggin' elephant that you as you said "like"?! Please, let me keep this one fucking plushie that keeps the CDs from falling off the shelf! It has a tiny school bag, never forget that!

It is not really a matter of the company, when you have MM. If the labels would hand him around like hippies do with a joint or desperados with a slut, every release would be perfect - always.

Their website should show their OOP titles like Intrada does.

God, I hate those monthly waves of dispensable thread batches (although I'm often responsible for them).

Wasn't that the second possibility that MM considered? I would have chosen that one on disc 1.

The gaps are for the new Small Soldiers and The Mummy releases that I'm still impatiently waiting for.

The elephant was a birth present and the little school bag on its back a present for my high school graduation, so it kinda sums up my adolescence.

In comparison to most of the other collections mine is tiny:

    upper shelf - Goldsmith (60s, 70s, 80s)
    lower shelf - Williams

    tiny shelf - Goldsmith (90s, 00s)

There's also a bunch of CDs from other composers, but it's not worth showing.

I rewatched The 'Burbs yesterday and I've found out the following:

Goldsmith has apparently composed and recorded the score as it's presented on the expanded Varese Sarabande release. After that Joe Dante wanted him to revise a few things, which means that Goldsmith had to write a few alternate inserts for already existing cues.

In the film, the beginning of "The Note #2" sounds sweeter and has a glockenspiel in the foreground instead of a violin. After just a few seconds, the original cue sets in. "This Is Walter" has a short section replaced. The comedic orchestral outburst, when Ray and Art freak out and the camera zooms in and out, is now faster and the hits by the orchestra are softer. This is the only non-insert out of these five and technically no revision. During the visit at the Klopek house, Mark stamps heavily on the floorboards and a cavernous sound leads him to suspect the Klopeks of hiding something. At this spot a rendition of the second motif of the Klopeks starts. This time the main voice is doubled by a violin. Let's call this cue "The Cavity". The beginning of "The Trunk" got a revision and is now much more upsetting and less ironic. After the trunk scene, the original cue can be heard for a few seconds, but most of the rest is dropped from the film. The cue "Pack Your Bags" is also unused until the western theme sets in which happens to be revised. The rhythm is changed noticably and doesn't appear in that form in any other cue. These are the five film version inserts that probably came later in the process. None of them is on the Deluxe Edition, they are all unreleased. However, one must say that they're all poorly integrated into the original cues and their sound and orchestration is blatantly different at times. I would not want them in my main program, as the originally intended versions are fine and fit better to the rest of the score.

Home Alone 2 does not deserve a third disc. Hook, AI, Harry Potter or Star Wars - these are the candidates for 3 disc sets.
