Oh dear! I have totally derailed the thread.

Well, C-3PO was very popular in his prime years. He had an interesting career ahead of him, although that was before he started appearing in Disney movies.

So glad I held on to it after the SE release. My brother decided to get rid of his, and I gave it to one of my Japanese 4th grade students, who gave me this sweet message in a card:

I still haven't figured out for myself if this box is (like the cynic in me says) a symptom of the decline of physical media and the CD in particular or (like the childish fan in me thinks) just a terrific gift to us fans.

    This is really great.

The complete television scores should then be Box No. 2.

Anyway, there are so many things in this set, that I am looking forward, too.
For example, at last the Jaws OST on CD. And having it on one disk with Jaws 2 OST is even better.
Other gaps like How to Steal a Million or The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing.
Also I could imagine that I will listen to the Oliver Stone collection or the Desaster disk more than to the complete albums.

The programs of the 13th and 17th CDs are amazing, as they allow me to rediscover the scores of the Oliver Stone Trilogy, as well as those of Family Plot, Black Sunday, and Monsignor, among others.

Moreover, the fact that the boxset includes a substantial portion of his pre-Jaws scores is fantastic. I mean, you're here because you're a John Williams fan, but how often do you listen to his music written before 1975? You probably don't have any scores from that era in your CD collection.

This boxset is a significant milestone in his career.

The Harry Potter music is consistently underrepresented on JW's compilations. I assume the rights are VERY expensive...

By the way, I just realized that the Cinderella Liberty OST will be COMPLETE! Finally, I will have it!

I'll check that list, but it's a bummer that neither Star Wars '77 nor CE3K are represented in their original soundtrack (OST) form, or something similar.

Anyway, it's the first comprehensive anthology that covers John Williams' entire career, and the fact that it has been done with the participation of Williams himself is GREAT.

It's an object that will look very great in my collection, with the two Morricone's!

    Buy it... then we'll have a Volume 2 ;-)

The race was won by a French producer/director who also won a single Oscar back in the 70s and whose collaboration with JW is represented by a mere three tracks on this 20 CD box set he is so proudly sporting:

Well, apparently it took over 7 years to get Hook released. Let's assume Mike started working on SW or Indy in 2019 after TROS was released... There's still hope!

There is something in common, however they were already done disk sets, the prices were still reasonable, the distribution was absolutely flawless, Sony Classic still released an "ultimate edition" of episode I, and we knew they very likely wouldn't hold the rights for several years. Also we could hope that IJ would get a better treatment as the rights were on a different hand.
On top of that, it is now 20 years later and instead of any light at the end of the tunnel we are seeing things going backwards .

This is not just an item we don't like.
This is a sign of how Disney deals with soundtracks and their release, and shows lacks of respect for customers, and also proves how incapable they are in taking the right decisions in this market. We have been waiting for proper IJ releases for many years, and the best Disney can do is to add a cardboard box and price the set at $30 per disk, while you can comfortably buy the very same content for much less. They even managed to keep some previously available music out of this box. All of this right after the disastrous release of the DoD CD.
These release goes in the wrong direction of what should be made, frustrates the hopes of the fans, and this is why it's getting such a reaction, especially when the market is now full of great releases and it's so clear how to proceed and who to get involved.
