Yes! Another Rey movie! Disney yet again demonstrating how it has its finger firmly on the pulse of what the moviegoing public wants!

I'm just excited that we're getting another animated score by Harry! I can't believe a composer of his calibre is writing music for projects like "Meg 2: The Trench" or "Retribution" (some cheapo Liam Neeson film I didn't know existed until yesterday).

His last animated film "Early Man" (also from Aardman and co-written with Tom Howe) was one of my favourite scores from 2018, featuring a handful of solid themes, vibrant orchestrations, and a good balance between silliness and some genuinely heartwarming moments. Well worth a listen!

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of the Julie Kirgo format of "here is an essay talking a bit about making the movie, and, oh yeah, it had a score."

I liked when they had a track by track analysis, like Goldsmith's Star Trek TMP from 2012 or (don't kill me) the old Hook extended edition.

It's much easier to follow the score and themes when each track is individually analyzed, instead of something like "the love theme goes in tracks A, B and C while track D has a different performance..."

I don't know where to post this (perhaps it can be moved to a more relevant thread), but I've recently discovered that John Debney's Iron Man 2 theme (I Am Iron Man) is extremely similar to Goldsmith's Total Recall theme (and Goldsmith's 90s rhythmic style in general). I'm sure this has been discussed previously, but it was my first time noticing it.

Which would be more important: all JW expansions available to stream and purchase by anyone, forever. Or a physical set available for a couple of years and then OOP.

Surely at least some physical collectors (not the FSM 'no CD = no sale' brigade; they're beyond help) would forego their collection in return for wider availability.

I don't even really see how it involves such a mountain of paperwork that they won't do it.

All sorts of crap gets put on Spotify. Quite a few stock music companies have theire entire inventory on streaming - god knows who's listening to it. If they are able to profitably do that, the studios can sure as hell do it or allow the labels to do it.

Hear hear. My friends don't understand it whenever I have to send them files and tell them they can't get Mike's presentations on Spotify. All these studios should just, once and for all, GET THEIR PAPERWORK IN ORDER AND WAKE UP TO REALITY.

Funny you should bring up the Legacy Edition of Toy Story. For my own interest, I did a deep dive comparison between the 1995 OST and the 2015 Legacy.

Having recently watched the film, I can say that there is still some unreleased music. First (and most importantly) there is a cue that plays when Buzz first introduces himself to Andy's toys which is inexplicably absent from the 2015 release. It's a good cue too, continuing to develop the noble "Space Ranger" theme introduced in "Buzz Revealed".

Additionally, there are several "film versions" of pieces which are noticeably different in terms of density/orchestration which are omitted in favour of the "album versions" from the OST. Off the top of my head, I can think of the scene where the baby monitor falls to the ground and the toys struggle to re-insert the batteries ("Surprise Present"), as well as the finale when Buzz and Woody "fly" to catch up to Andy's car ("Infinity and Beyond"). There may be others I've missed.

Finally, all 3 songs are noticeably different takes/recordings when comparing the film to the 1995 album. The 2015 release keeps the album versions and doesn't even include the film versions as bonus tracks at the end.

ALSO, there are 2 little portions of music which are exclusive to the 1995 OST and don't appear on the 2015 release. The first is "Andy's Birthday" (1:23-1:29), which I assume is an alternate to the version heard on the Legacy Edition ("Opening" 1:23-1:28) that segues into "You've Got a Friend in Me". The second (and most interesting omission) is "On the Move" (3:42-4:03). I also assume this was an alternate section of some cue that ended up getting replaced and hence isn't on the Legacy Edition (although I can't remember if it is or isn't in the film 100%).

The 12-page booklet has the tracklist, the credits, the special thanks, the AFM musicians listing, and a little something special.

The 48 page booklet is all liner notes.

Well, both booklets are full of Jim Titus art design and photos, of course.

Boy, I can be wordy sometimes.  Mike has shared the same sentiment far more elegantly on Facebook

This pretty much stands as the last collaboration between John Williams and Leslie Bricusse, who both contributed to crafting the program as a listening experience rather than letting it just be a pile of bonus tracks. (Yes, it's been basically finished that long.) There was a totally unexpected cumulative impact when it all came together for everyone who worked on it, and listeners deserve that same opportunity, which can only come once
