Amer reacted to Naïve Old Fart in How do you rate JW's score to Superman?
Well said, brother. It doesn't quite reach the dizzy heights of CE3K, but its definitely my all-time #2 JW score.

If I were to choose ONE soundtrack above all. It would be this. Period.

Mike Matessino drew some interesting parallels to 9/11 and the current Pandemic situation in the podcast interview that Maurizio conducted. I always noticed how Anti Spielbergian film this was in terms of the directors own usual approach to the subject matter and being as subtle as possible without empowering us with those cliched film making techniques which we were so aware of. Over the years I have been drawn into this score because it's a very subtle and restrained effort from Williams in the thematic sense and it's all merely incidental music. I think both the director and Composer chose to move away from their usual approach intentionally and created a vivid piece of art. The music does not grab you immediately but slowly draws you in. At times, you can find that It's almost like a musical documentary. I just can't wait to get my copy. I have been eagerly awaiting this restoration ever since AI 3CD set came about.

I think the film has the odor of late-Spielberg popcorn-fare, but it’s one of his most serious directorial efforts. William’s unique and brilliant score reflects that.

Amer reacted to rough cut in WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) 2CD edition from Intrada Records 2020
I’m watching the movie in anticipation of the CD. Never really did that kind of thing before, I must be getting old. 😂
I’ve previously only seen it the once in its theatrical release... and it’s not one of my fondest memories.
Maybe I was too young, but it was all so bleak. And it was scene after scene, with nothing going the protagonist’s way.
Seeing it now, again, it really is a one-of-a-kind-movie. It’s relentless. The first reveal and the disappearing bodies. The way his kids hate their dad. The bodies in the river. The mob mentality. They way way the ferry leaves and how the aliens suck people up. The way the son keeps fighting with his father... and so on, and so on.
As a viewer, I think there are very few, blockbuster movies at least, that give you this kind of experience.
The sound design is equally horrifying. It’s loud and uncomforting.
And what do I think now, after seeing it today, my second viewing after 15 years?
It’s good. Spielberg surely knew he was “breaking the mold”, and - though I can’t say I’m enjoying it - I can’t take my eyes off of it.
Characters are unlikable and the movie is brutal, too brutal. I kind of hate everyone in the movie and at the same time everything that happens to them. It bogs you down, scene after scene. It’s too brutal, too relentless, too unforgiving, too sad.
It’s perhaps one of the most well made and interesting blockbusters you’ll ever see.
If you can take it.
I can’t wait for my CD to arrive.

Amer reacted to Holko in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
There's some way to do it. At worst by just quoting that quoted post too and copying the quote into the quote. But I think if you select it and then press quote instead of just pressing quote to quote the whole post, that'll quote the quote and the quoted quote into a quote.

I just wish Spielberg would do another Sci fi based film with Willlams. I know Iam just being nostalgic but both need to return to this genre again.

I think they kept the set for a while at Universal Studios - the tour went past it showing the wreckage when I visited in 2008.
I remember visiting Universal Studios in 2000 and seeing parts of the huge miniature set they had built for JP3 (mountains), as well as a shed which housed some of the full-scale animatronic dinosaurs (their arses were poking out)! Oh, and Whoville from The Grinch!

From the moment the CDs arrived, were played, ripped onto our harddrives, they were doomed. They were undone, destroyed, after all of man's optical drives and devices had failed, by the tiniest scratches that plant workers in their wisdom put upon disc surfaces.
