At the very start here: Thoughts? This recording doesn't sound like any of the previous scores and I doubt a morning talk show would just use some random concert performance of Main Title, considering Disney are their parent company (and they got the exclusive first clip from the film). It also sounds different to the version of Main Title they were using for interviews on TLJ (which sounded more like the TFA recording to my ears).

With less than 40 days until the unveiling of John's final ever Star Wars score, and with all trailers for the film now released, this is now our final chance to predict the contents of a brand new John Williams Star Wars score, period. I'll avoid questions already discussed in previous polls and instead focus on some oddly specific topics based on the footage released, Don Williams' interview, and anything else we officially know about the plot (so no references to leaked spoilers because I have avoided them; please be mindful of not posting spoilers if you have read them).

The Rise of Skywalker Star Wars Funko Pops commercial music?
Not Mr. Big posted a topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Did Williams write the music for this Funko pops commercial? https://v.redd.it/4p54lvg1ubp31 -
Anyone want to weigh in on this "leak" from the ST to Rise of Skywalker? I can't hear the Rey theme as claimed, but kinda hear Kylo's theme (sorta)... and it does sound like it is about to go into the force theme at the abrupt ending.... https://www.reddit.com/user/some_famous_director/comments/czm4m0/tros_the_prodigal_son/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app More opinions on the validity here... https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsspeculation/comments/czm5um/the_rise_of_skywalker_the_prodigal_son_way_better/

I like Rose’s Theme. But there are several oddities about it: It (or something damned close) was composed and recorded for TFA. It appears to be a major-key variant of the Force Theme. I know it’s controversial, but IMO the TLJ concert suite makes for a very satisfactory piece. It marries Rose’s Theme to the Luke in Exile Theme. These are two characters who have nothing to do with each other in the film. And it’s named “The Rebellion is Reborn,” which has nothing to do with either Rose or with Luke’s exile, however, Luke is the one who utters those words which seem to have captured JW’s fancy. I’m curious to hear your speculations about this. The best idea I can come up with is that JW originally wrote it for Leia. We know there were a lot of Leia scenes cut from TFA, including the one where Maz hands her the lightsaber (it can be seen in TFA Teaser Trailer #2) and all of the TRoS footage with her (the scene in TRoS Teaser Trailer #1 with the Throne Room medallion - Throne Room of course contains a rendition of the Force Theme). Then, if JW still thought of it as Leia’s theme for some time into the composition of TLJ, the suite perhaps can be thought of (much more satisfactorily) as being about Luke and Leia.

Is this new/from IX? No music, but very nice to see!

Some REAL updates from Don Williams (JW’s brother and his usual timpanist) grabbed during a meeting at theAcademy of Scoring Arts lecture: Looks like the sessions began a couple of weeks ago and will continue through August and September, with a couple of weeks break because of JW’s commitments at Tanglewood. Don talks about 135 minutes of music (gasp!)

I assume he’ll be taking over duties shortly

This interview with TROS' editor probably explains how Williams was able to start writing so soon after production ended, in contrast with the post-production timeline for TFA. https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/1136655/Star-Wars-9-Rise-of-Skywalker-editing-post-production-editor-filming-on-set-tight-schedule She goes on to discuss the benefits of this approach, including getting pickup shots and inserts while the main production was still underway (this was done much later in post-production for TFA with reshoots -- a contributing factor to Williams constantly rewriting TFA as the edit kept changing).
