Look, unfortunately for us, much of the "great unwashed" (read: general public) couldn't give two hoots about soundtracks...they just want stuff that goes BOMP-BOMP-BOMP! That's why in many stores (at least in Australia...) the "Soundtracks" section is the thinnest and most neglected section of the shop. I know there'll be lots of people that would say liking soundtracks is down to taste but my neurologist friend says that liking soundtracks has a lot to do with a higher degree of specialised intelligence in the audio processing part of the brain. If that's the case...WE IS SOME SMART DUDES! (Yeah!) :)

Well, personally I don't like to brag about it but, you know. It's just one of those things.

I think we all just need more neurologist friends....we've all got one right?? I wonder what they'd say about me if they knew I enjoyed watching South Park as much as listening to the theme to the NBC News broadcast.... hmmm???

Well, if you were Down Under, we'd say you are a "good bloke." ;)

Yes, I really do have a neurologist friend...and he is as loopy as a wheel! :)

It has everything to do with having a larger-then-average sized penis.

I voted yes.

Anything Goes with a oriental twist. As a chinese, I have never been able to understand a single chinese word coming from Kate Capshaw's mouth. But I find the song very entertaining. Especially the grand opening.

Where can I find the correct chinese lyric?

Isn't that Cantonese?

I've also asked for a translation. I love the song.

Isn't it a direct translation of the original song?

Here's the lyrics to the english version:

Times have changed,

And we've often rewound the clock,

Since the Puritans got a shock,

When they landed on Plymouth Rock.

If today,

Any shock they should try to stem,

'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,

Plymouth Rock would land on them.

In olden days a glimpse of stocking

Was looked on as something shocking,

But now, God knows,

Anything Goes.

Good authors too who once knew better words,

Now only use four letter words

Writing prose, Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today

And good's bad today,

And black's white today,

And day's night today,

When most guys today

That women prize today

Are just silly gigolos

And though I'm not a great romancer

I know that I'm bound to answer

When you propose,

Anything goes

When grandmama whose age is eighty

In night clubs is getting matey with gigolo's,

Anything Goes.

When mothers pack and leave poor father

Because they decide they'd rather be tennis pros,

Anything Goes.

If driving fast cars you like,

If low bars you like,

If old hymns you like,

If bare limbs you like,

If Mae West you like

Or me undressed you like,

Why, nobody will oppose!

When every night,

The set that's smart

Is intruding in nudist parties in studios,

Anything Goes.

[RENO, PASSENGERS & CREW]

The world has gone mad today

And good's bad today,

And black's white today,

And day's night today,

When most guys today

That women prize today

Are just silly gigolos

And though I'm not a great romancer

I know that I'm bound to answer

When you propose,

Anything goes

[RENO]

If saying your prayers you like,

If green pears you like

If old chairs you like,

If back stairs you like,

If love affairs you like

With young bears you like,

Why nobody will oppose!

[ALL]

And though I'm not a great romancer

And though I'm not a great romancer

I know that I'm bound to answer

When you propose,

Anything goes...

Anything goes!

Ahhh, my bad.

I found the opening lyrics but couldn't find the complete set.

Yi wang si-i wa ye kan dao

Xin li bian yao la jing bao jin tian zhi Dao

Anything goes.

Of course I'd support a re-release, in fact I can't imagine any JW fan not supporting it.

Why would anyone want a re-release if he has the original? :)

  • 2 weeks later...

As one who doesn't have the original CD, and who doesn't want to shell out $125 for it at Amazon, a re-release would make me quite happy. That said, there is no sense in not just releasing the entire score.

Do we know who really holds the rights? Is it Lucasfilm, is it Paramount, or are there licensing problems that have the rights held up by some third party?

If there is concern about demand, then there is never a better time than now to release it. In this age of lossless compression and hi-speed broadband connections, the full recording could simply be released online, either through iTunes or some proprietary network (for instance, IndianaJones.com, duh) and there would be ZERO manufacturing cost. Thus the product will meet demand without the added expense of labor to produce, create new artwork, package, ship, market in stores, etc.

As one who WANTS the IJ soundtracks, but doesn't yet HAVE the IJ soundtracks, this seems the most sensible approach.

But when has good sense ruled the film or recording world?

It doesn't work that way, even if it was only released online there are costs to produce it, there are fees to pay, etc.

I have the original CD of this (I bought it when it was QUITE rare, but you could still find it for the price of a regular CD if you could find it at all). But I'd certainly buy an expanded release. I really want the movie version of the closing credits, with Shortround's Theme tinkling away during the Raiders March. Lovely touch, that isn't on the CD!

Peoples, if I can go on eBay and pick it up for less than £20 (including postage), I'm damn sure anyone else here could do just the same....
