Hey what happened to 12:00 pm pacific? :D

I'm impressed, as much as I dislike what D & E did to Godzilla, I have to applaud LaLaLand.

I'm ordering both.

I'll be getting just Godzilla. Don't care for The Dark Crystal. Also from the sound clips of Godzilla it sounds pretty good and the quality is outstanding. :D

Well the sound quality should be good since the film was made in 1997. :D

Now the next question, can this mean the odds of a complete ID4 are not out of the question?

Is The Dark Crystal worth getting?

Oh absolutely! Definitely better of the two.

Agreed. I didn't care for what I heard of Godzilla in the film, so I'm not getting that just yet. I'll listen to the promo and see if I like it, then decide abotu that one. But The Dark Crystal is a really good score.

Dark Crystal is pretty much one of the best fantasy/animated scores of all time filled with a multitude of great thematic ideas and instruments.

For Godzilla....it's David Arnold doing David Arnold.

Think African Rundown. Though his "Leaving Manhattan" alone will make this a worthy purchase for me.

There is a promo for Godzilla floating about.. but it only has a small handful of cues. From what I remember of the promo I liked what I heard but I wanted more of the score. It has been years since I've seen Godzilla so I can't really remember what all music in the movie was left off.

The original promo for Godzilla runs about 45 mins so the new release has about 70 mins of additional music.

If you buy The Dark Crystal and Godzilla from LaLaLand, you get $6.00 off The Dark Crystal.

KM,

If I were you I would get Godzilla. In my opinion Godzilla ranks up there with Stargate and Independence Day. All though if I remember correctly you deleted those two scores off your hard drive so what's the point in getting Godzilla then? :)

By the way I just placed my order for Godzilla through Movie Music.com :D. Peter Kelly (the owner duh) is letting me send a money order to him when I get paid on August 3rd and he's guaranteed me a copy of the score. He's awesome.

No I still have those scores.I love Stargate and Independance Day is Ok...same for the Godzilla promo...not sure I want 70 more minutes of music of it

The entire score is worth having for Godzilla. You think Independence Day is just okay? What's wrong with you man? :D lol.

I'll have to D/L the ID4 complete score...maybe on my ipod i can listen to it.

N00b question here, but why is Independence Day abbreviated as ID4? 4 meaning Fourth of July, I guess?

I suppose so. It was the movie's promotional title.

Godzilla sounds like a Batman/Lost World ripoff. I'm sure it's the best anyone could have done for such a film, though. Dark Crystal sounds pretty good.

I wish I could remember something about Dark Crystal

Mark, The Dark Crystal is one of those strange experiences that, if you had seen it, you wouldn't forget it. Now, I'm not saying that it's particularly good-- it's kind of a plodding Lord of the Rings rip-off-- but the score is awesome. Trevor Jones was involved a bit with the scoring sessions for RoTJ, and this score oddly reminds me of it, in sound texture (if that's what we'd call it).

I don't know why they're making such a big deal though; there's been a two-cd version released before. THAT's the one worth owning.

The two disc set was limited and is out of print. The second disc didn't have the best source material, the cues weren't complete and featured drops in volume.

Are you basing that off of the few soundclips on LaLaLand's site? You're way off, it sounds nothing like TLW or Batman. I would best describe it as Arnold's James Bond meets ID4.

Mine's already shipped.

Yeah, I'm just basing it off the sound clips. My bad, but a few short clips are still indicative of a score's overall quality to some degree. "1st Helicopter Chase / Godzilla Swats A Chopper" sounds like a clone of "Rescuing Sarah," and every clip seems to suggest a darkly heroic/apocalyptic sound similar to that of Goldenthal's Batman Forever (crossed with Williams's The Lost World, maybe?).

Not a big fan of ID4 or Stargate. Arnold has done great things with the Bond series, though.

I'm sure Bondo will chime in to say good is a matter of opinion, and that Godzilla is great. ;)

Nah, I'm taking the day off! Opion be damned, Godzilla (the movie) ain't great by any stretch of the imagination.

I did set my alarm clock this morning to order the CD though! ;)

Trevor Jones was involved a bit with the scoring sessions for RoTJ...

Where did you get that info?

Neil

I'd read it in an article about the scoring sessions for RoTJ. HOWEVER...... looks like this is a common mistake... I stand corrected. According to Wikipedia:

"Jones has sometimes been erroneously credited as an "arranger" for John Williams' score for Return of the Jedi, owing to a "Trevor Jones" listed in the film's credits. However this was not the composer, but an extra who played one of the Ewoks."

Oh well, at least they were recorded in the same year... right?

For Godzilla....it's David Arnold doing David Arnold.

I always feel that Nicholas Dodd is the unsung hero for the majority of Arnold's work.

Ordered Godzilla - never warmed to The Dark Crystal particularly.

Well, for one thing, Dodd is hardly being unsung by anyone, including Arnold himself. For another, I think it has been established that Arnold's scores are in fact very much composed by Arnold himself, 'surprisingly'.

Touchy aren't we?! I didn't state that Arnold was not the composer, merely stated the fact that Dodd contributes much to Arnold's work.

Is there any way to get the Godzilla 2-Disc cheaper? I've been waiting for it for a long time, but I don't have 25 bucks to shell out for a CD.

I imagine this will go for less than $25.

Not when you consider it has to be flown in from Italy.
