Kudos for Yavar from bringing this up on FSM, but Bruce Botnick has revealed on the latest Goldsmith Odissey episode that he has just finished work on a Legacy expansion of The Hunchback of Notre Dame

🥰

If we're going to submit feedback to Disney music, it should be to ask that they hire Mike Matessino to produce new complete editions of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones scores

Newman signed my copy of Toy Story 2. Twice. First time he wrote “dear Tom” then got distracted (think he starting ranting about Robert Goulet) and so I asked him later so he signed it twice. Lovely man.

Few things are funnier than Randy Newman signing things.

You can hear it at roughly the 8 minute mark:

Great, great news

And Disney Music Twitter posted this a couple of hours ago:

I just realized that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the film; this upcoming expanded release makes perfect sense.

Great news to know the line is alive, and Menken scores keep getting released.

Aladdin must be released someday then! When is it's next XX anniversary?

I know it has only been a few days since the mention in that interview with Bruce Botnick and the Twitter post from Walt Disney Records, but when will they officially announce The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

Imagine if it was delayed until 2022, LOL! Just kidding.

An expanded release of Aladdin would be perfect for the film’s 30th anniversary; the same with the upcoming expanded release of The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the film’s 25th anniversary this year. Aladdin was the first film I ever watched. My mom told me that I would always want to watch it again and again.

Getting back to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, they have to officially announce this expanded edition soon, right?

Check out the 1999 musical album! :)

produced and recorded by Bruce Botnick btw!

With a 48piece orchestra – quite unusual for a musical. I think the actual pit orchestra in the show was smaller though. I saw it in Berlin in 2001.

The English cast recording is pretty great too, probably easier to get too!

Do we have any clue as to when the announcement is going to be?

Nope. I'd wager Disney Records would have preferred that Botnick not reveal it ahead of their announcement, whenever that'll be.

I wonder if the announcement will be just this, or a collection of titles

Dang it, Walt Disney Records, just announce it already. Why post that tease on Twitter a few days ago and have no follow-up?

I never warmed to the score for Tangled, but after countless rewatches with my toddler I did eventually come around to the songs - even the treacly See the Light song in the middle.

If they’re going to expand a post-Renaissance Menken score, I’d love to hear Enchanted, which was poorly/briefly represented on the OST IIRC.

I’m an easy mark, though.  The only Legacy Collection album I haven’t bought is the Disneyland one, since I have a DisneyWorld comp that already had the stuff I wanted on it.  I’d even buy Home on the Range

If this demo tape of "Out There" sung by Alan Menken doesn't intrigue you to buy this release, I don't know what will! :P

What a haunting melody and at the same time, so intimate.

And then there's Heaven's Light with segue to Hellfire. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has tons of musical sophistication but as you can see, struggled to appeal to the youngest of  audiences.

Beyond excited for this set!

I would own anything Menken's done, don't let my comments fool you. Hercules has some great score in it, though Hunchback it's not. But I'd buy it.

Even more than Hunchback, I want a nice release of Aladdin with bonus material. I hope they record new versions of cut songs like they did with Mary Poppins, but I would be content with demos. Howard Ashman was taken far before his time and anything we can find of that man's, I want it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hopefully something will be announced in the next few days or a week from now. If it is planned for June to coincide with the film’s theatrical release 25 years ago, you’d think an announcement would have happened by now.

I listened to Alan Menken's episode of Score. Hunchback doesn't even get a mention! But he did tease a few upcoming projects, including the live action Little Mermaid, Enchanted sequel Disenchanted, a Beauty and the Beast prequel for Disney + and Spellbound, an animated musical from John Lasseter's new animation company. He's going to have a busy few years! But perhaps this Menken renaissance is what's prompted Disney Records to revisit the Legacy Collection.

These were all projects that were announced already
