Jay 43,101 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Also, according to advancesceenings.com there are previews of The Book Thief set for the following dates/locations:Los Angeles, California (10/22)Scottsdale, Arizona (10/24)Bethesda, Maryland (10/24)Washington, District of Columbia (10/29)Cambridge, Massachusetts (10/30)Fairfax, Virginia (10/31)Boston, Massachusetts (11/6)Manchester, Connecticut (11/13)More showings may be added, so keep checking the advance screening website.Of course there will be a showing in LA the day after I leave here! Bah!
RomĂŁo 2,432 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I hope they're fake. 22 tracks means a lot of them are probably pretty short, which can make for a disjointed listening experience (ala Thomas Newman). Angela's Ashes had 18 tracks and had a length of 57 minutes, and I don't there was anything disjointed about that one (and even the lengthy suite was featured twice). If the Book Thief cd is a 70 minute album, I don't think how can this be a problem in that sense
Ricard 2,381 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Less than three weeks to the film release and still no sound clips or trailer with JW music.. this is a first!
Koray Savas 2,256 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I'm sure there are plenty of JW scored films that didn't do that.
King Mark 3,848 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 well post production seems to have been super short on this film
Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 well post production seems to have been super short on this filmWell the studio expedited the release schedule so that the film could get into the awards this season, which must have resulted in a change in all post production schedules, including the scoring sessions that again affected the soundtrack release schedule and the PR involved.
Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Media literacy (or illiteracy) is at amazing heights these days.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,080 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Did Conrad Pope work on this?
crumbs 15,556 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Did Conrad Pope work on this?Of course not, he was far too busy cleaning up Shore's mess with the DoS score, after Peter Jackson fired him.

Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Sandor's version wasn't far from the final product (again). The cover looks nice!Less than a month to the release date!
crocodile 9,235 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 He's me and he's you. He's all of us.Karol
Ricard 2,381 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 He's me and he's you. He's all of us.That is exactly correct.

lostinspace 8 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Did Conrad Pope work on this?Of course not, he was far too busy cleaning up Shore's mess with the DoS score, after Peter Jackson fired him.Either that or JW finally realised he doesn't need an orchestrator.....as everyone says his sketches are so complete. In fact on some of the cues post 2005 are written on 16 staves....... he's really making the orchestrators job a piece of cake!

publicist 4,648 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Either that or JW finally realised he doesn't need an orchestrator.....as everyone says his sketches are so complete. After 80 years, it's about time.
Luke Skywalker 2,224 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 it looks strange to have "original motion picture soundtrack) below Williams name and the film title. It fits (as it is done 99% of the times) better over the title of the film

Maurizio 6,070 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Thanks Mari!Better trailer overall than the previous one. Still no JW music though. Mari 1
Jay 43,101 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I have been away on vacation for a week and a half, but finally today contacted Sony about getting samples and a copy of the OST for review. Hopefully they come through! Mari and Maurizio 2
Jay 43,101 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Blast, my main contact there is on vacation until Monday!I have emailed her backup, hopefully he comes through If not, I can't imagine it will be long until samples turn up somewhere else. In the past for other scores they have premiered on either Cinema Musica or David Garland's WQXR radio broadcasthttp://www.cinemamusica.de/http://www.wqxr.org/#!/programs/movies/

In fact on some of the cues post 2005 are written on 16 staves....... he's really making the orchestrators job a piece of cake! That's true about his sketches being extremely detailed, especially in recent years. But working with orchestrators still saves valuable time. I'm sure if not for the practical time constraints of the filmmaking process, Williams would orchestrate most or all of his own work, as he apparently does with his concert works.

Not Mr. Big 4,835 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The part at 1:12 sounds like John Williams music. *Edit* Here's the first clip. It has JW music in it!http://news.moviefone.com/2013/10/22/book-thief-preview/
Paulo 1 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The first movie clip on youtube (with JW music): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to4xYgWKTEg crocodile 1
Incanus 5,858 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Though it is only 47 seconds and so you can't make very wide ranging judgements yet, it sounds intimate, delicate and lyrical. I repeat: I can't wait to hear this!
BloodBoal 7,544 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Those are the best 47 seconds Williams has ever composed!

Richard P 4,823 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Nice clip Chances of it being on the OST? Hmmmm.
Muad'Dib 1,954 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Sounds really lovely, that Clarinet is almost Azkaban-esque. But the Piano part stole the show for me, sounded almost mystical. Now I'm really excited.
Thor 9,312 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The snippet is too short to really make a judgement (and it's not exactly a scene that showcases the music), but I like the potential here. I adore Williams' woodwind writing, so here's hoping for more and maybe a defined theme in that mode. Not Mr. Big 1
