Has there never been a non-Walin Giacchino score before?

Wallin didn't come into the picture for Giacchino until 2006/2007 or so

>Cool :), I could find the first cue title.

Cool!

I thought Wallin and Gia met through Alias?

OK I just did a "people working together search" on IMDB, and it claims they both worked on:

1. Semper Fi (2001 TV Movie)
2. Redemption of the Ghost (2002)
3. Call of Duty (2003 Video Game)
4. Sin (2003)
5. The Incredibles (2004)
6. Call of Duty: Finest Hour (2004 Video Game)
7. The Incredibles (2004 Video Game)
8. Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (2005 Video Game)
9. The Muppets' Wizard of Oz (2005 TV Movie)
10. Sky High (2005)
11. The Family Stone (2005)
12. Mission: Impossible III (2006)
13. Ratatouille (2007)
14. Speed Racer (2008)
15. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: Pilot (2008)
16. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: The Same Old Story (2008)
17. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: The Ghost Network (2008)
18. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: The Arrival (2008)
19. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: Power Hungry (2008)
20. Fringe (2008 TV Series) Episode: The Cure (2008)
21. The 81st Annual Academy Awards (2009 TV Special)
22. Star Trek (2009)
23. Up (2009)
24. Up (2009 Video Game)
25. Land of the Lost (2009)
26. Prep & Landing (2009 Short Film)

28. Super 8 (2011)

32. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
33. John Carter (2012)
34. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Which would mean that Wallin did NOT work on:

Mickey Mania (1994)

Gargoyles (1995)
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow (1995)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (Video Game) (1997)
Legal Deceit (1997)

Small Soldiers (Video Game) (1998)
T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger (1999)
Warpath: Jurassic Park (1999)
Medal of Honor (1999)
My Brother the Pig (1999)

The Trouble With Lou (2001)
Alias (2001–2006)
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (2002)
Medal of Honor: Frontline (2002)
Secret Weapons Over Normandy (2003)
The Incredibles (Video Game) (2004)
Alias (Video Game) (2004)
Lost (2004–2010)
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (2005)
Black (2006)
Six Degrees (2006–2007)
Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World (2006)
Medal of Honor: Airborne (2007)
Cloverfield (2008)
Lost: Via Domus (2008)
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (2008)
Fracture (2008)
Earth Days (2009)
Let Me In (2010)
Undercovers (2010)
Alcatraz (2012)
This, of course, assumes IMDB is completely accurate, which I don't know if it is or not.

Well if you wanted to you could just go through the CDs of the ones it says he didn't do. Giacchino's music has always sounded the same to me, meaning it all felt like a uniformed style from score to score. I would have never guessed that Ratatouille and Let Me In were mixed by two different people. The only time I ever noticed how the recording affected the music was between LOST Season 1 and then the rest of the series.

The Lost CDs credit "Danny Wallin" as the engineer.

I thought the dry, sparse sound came up with Lost and assumed it's an orchestration thing. Ratatouille sounds great, but most Giacchino since Lost has been stuck in those dry acoustics, which were perfect for lost but have been starting to get on my nerves since then. If it turns out that Wallin is to blame, I'll be glad to be proven wrong. In any case Iwataki has done some fantastic recordings.

The IMDB information doesn't seem to be entirely accurate, at least for video games and tv shows. But regardless, I have a feeling STID will have a different sound (recording/engineering wise) than ST, and it will likely be a positive one.

Giacchino's writing style has also changed a lot in the 5 (!!) years since he recorded the first ST score so the whole thing will just be super interesting to hear

Exactly. Giacchino's writing style has changed a lot since MOH. So I'd be curious to see how the music would sound without Wallin.

I honestly don't think it's changed much. There's a clear line of development in the maturity and gravitas of his writing, particularly regarding thematic development, but it never ceases to be fun when he wants it to.

Wow, what a fascinating picture! So at the time this picture was taken:

-There was either 52 or 71 total cues (I think)

-Reel 1 had been re-edited 22 times, reel 2 21 times, reel 3 31 times, and reel 4 27 times

-Reel 1 runs at least 12:35 and contains 7:50 of music

-Reel 2 runs at least 17:30 and contains 10:40 of music

-Reel 3 runs at least 13:36 and contains 8:30 of music

-Reel 4 contains 15:11 of music

-It looks like every cue has been revised either 3 or 4 times, but I don't think that's the case - that Ver column must mean something else.

And here's a preliminary complete cue list!

1M01 (0:55) - logos

1M03 (1:55)

1M06 w/ Insert (2:31)

1M07-08 (2:31)

1M09 (2:04)

2M10 (0:51)

2M11 (2:27)

2M13 (0:37)

2M14 (2:21)

2M15 (1:56)

2M16 (2:36)

3M19 (3:20)

3M20 (0:41)

3M21 (0:52)

3M22 (0:49)

3M23 (1:15)

3M24 (0:32)

3M25 (1:10)

4M26 (2:15)

4M27 (1:15)

4M28 (1:39)

4M28B (3:18)

4M29 (2:37)

Lots of short cues in the first half of the film!

If you squint hard enough at the bottom of the new poster, you will see that Varese is releasing the OST.

The movie opens Friday May 17, and I predict the OST will drop on Tuesday May 7th, the same day that Chris Tilton's Fringe: Season 5 OST drops. I'll update the thread title accordingly when there's an official announcement.

Let's hope it's longer than 35 minutes this time, and that if Giacchino uses choir and/or additional drum overlays, they are included in the OST this time!

45 mins, not 35 ;)

I predict that Varese knows there will be demand for more music, and will allocate necessary budgeting for a full CD.

Or they'll go "Hmmmm I can release these 45 minutes for $12 and then six months later I can release a complete one and get $20...and end up with so much more money!"

Given the history (and strong sales) of the previous score I wouldn't be surprised if they went for the 2 CD's. If not now, then certainly later.

The new poster definitely looks ugly ....the first one was a knock of The Dark Knight Rises.

For the OST I hope it's better than the first one and I also agree that the OST will be first then an "expanded" score later on. That's the way how the Star Trek releases have been and will continue to be.

I wish Dan Wallin wasn't recording and mixing the score. Lord knows how much of the scores he's done have been... subpar at best, and utterly muddy at worst. The only scores he hadn't mucked up completely weren't recorded by him, only mixed.

if they are planning a two disc release do it for the intial release.

Joe still hoping MG hits a home run Goldsmith/Horner type score.

STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS

Music Composed by
Michael Giacchino
(Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Star Trek, The Incredibles)

This summer, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Composer Michael Giacchino — an Academy Award winner for his score for Up — reunites with director J.J. Abrams to steer the Enterprise through its darkest territory yet.

Paramount will open STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS nationwide on May 17.

It hits IMAX theaters two days early in the U.S. -- May 15th. And then on Friday, it opens in regular 2D and 3D theaters.

If you want to get real technical, the album comes out after the movie's overseas release, and a day before its U.S. release.

One fucking month later here! June 6!

Don't you know how the internet works? When it's released somewhere, it's released everywhere.

Oh snap. Alex will want your receipt. Never mind.

Giacchino just posted this:

http://telly.com/BKR1I8

Nothing dramatically new or different - End Titles it sounds like - but session audio/video nonetheless.

yea, almost identical arrangement to the first film's end credits. Interesting.

Then again STIII was almost the same end credits of STII, and this is only a part of the credits....

That could very well be the only minute of out an 8 minute end credits suite that's the same as the first film's

OK, I know everyone is let down that the credits are just another rehash BUT...

Consider this: the shitty video sounds way more exciting than Dan Wallin's mix.

Listen to those drums! Now there's no telling how it'll all sound in the end, but at least the raw orchestra sounds nice.
