My 3 year old son loves John Williams

Superman, Raiders, ET, JAWS. That's all my kids ever want on in the car. Especially Jaws, which they LOVE (when I suddenly grab at their feet behind me when the ositnato reaches it loud crescendo).

You know 10 years from now they will rebel against "daddy's" music and listen to utter crap right?

Probably, but at least if they do they'll still have a broader taste and knowledge than they might have done.

My girlfriend's two young girls literally listen to nothing else but the latest chart toppers and X-Factor winning tracks, it's pretty painful stuff for someone like me to be around. My own two however have a bloody healthy knowledge of other music for their age and will be able to tell you who the bassist in Queen is or which Beatles song was sung by Ringo Starr.

My boys are just like that. They are now 10 and 12, but they basically care for orchestral music. Actually, the older does not gives a crap for anything else other than orchestral music. He passionately hates all pop/rock stuff.

The younger one has a more musical sense, and enjoys a lot of other stuff, but both can be quite critical about the current charts shit.

And while I never made a conscious effort to make them like Williams music, I do believe that they look at Williams music as their favorite, just like their dad!

Both older and younger, for me. My 21-year old has been hooked on JW for years (I know how to raise 'em). My 10-year old got a tablet last Christmas that's packed with film music from a number of different composers, but he especially loves Star Wars and Star Trek music.

Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and um, screaming.

My son also loves Taylor Swift and Fitz and the Tantrums! He loves Swift's "Shake It Off" he sings that all the time.

I like telling people that his favorite artists are John Williams and Taylor Swift.

But it wasn't just the march that he liked, he started requesting other pieces from the soundtrack. He started asking for the "Butterfly Boom song" which was his name for "The Battle for Hollywood". "Swing Swing Swing" he called "Drums Boom". All film score and orchestral stuff he labels as Boom songs. "Christmas Boom" was the swinging version of Jingle Bells. To Hollywood and Glory was simply... the "other boom song". Ah, the mind of a child.

I also put some stuff from the "By Request" BPO album on my phone to see if he liked any of the other big Williams pieces. He loves Star Wars (which he calls "Birthday Cake Boom"), the Imperial March (which he calls "Darth Vader Boom")

So he understands the "Boom", but does he understand the "Tzzz". Only then will we know.

When my son was 3, he liked Hedwigs Theme. With 13 he loved playing Imperial March, Olympic Fanfare or The Duel Music from Tintin in the car. Now with 15 he is more into this Pop/Rock stuff – I hope a temporary regression of the teenage brain.
