I re-ordered the OST with the ASM version of Helena's theme as the opening track. I think it works as a concert piece dripping with golden-age vibes. I moved the orchestral Helena's theme to after the Prologue and put the full Raider's March at the very end.

The music as presented on the album lacks a cohesive musical narrative. I'd like something that flows a little better and with a clear musical climax. Right now, I don't get that from the final tracks.

Wait, is there no edit credits track?

I wish the video talked about the new music more, but this is like the Ep 9 one, where they just celebrate JW and his legacy.

That's a great set list. Nice to see TPM played in concert.

I've dreamed about JW before. It was something very mundane like him working at the piano or something.

I really like how the Battle of Yavin is spotted and scored. It's all very effective. SW didn't use to be wall to wall music.

I think I've shared this thought before, but Mother and Son is the best track on the album. The guitar is so tender, it could make me cry. Lately, listening to it has made me think of Cat Steven's Father and Son.

Sounds like standard JW comedic action music. Not my preferred JW mode, but I'm sure it will be fun. I just hope it isn't too chopped up in the edit. Sounded good and synced to specific hits.

Interesting listening experience but not my preferred mix for listening to these JW classics.

That was nice.

I'm sure it's basically sacrilege but I often find that film composers using fairly clear classical precedents give the material much more rhythmic vitality; the similarity here is clear, albeit feels somewhat less intentional than other of JW's more well known lifts but that 5 note motif in Duel of the Fates sounds much more exciting than the Saint-Saëns, those longer, on the beat, chords in the background make it all sound a bit plodding rather than barrelling along like JW. Similar with the 10 note melody in DotF and the choral parts, which play off the beat so it keeps everything driving forward. People can bitch about JW for ripping stuff off all they like, but he always makes it his own and, in situations like this, turns it into something considerably more exciting for my money.
(I'd say the same goes for Willow's theme/Schumann's 3rd Symphony - James Horner changes the time signature and gives it far more energy and momentum than Schumann did, much though I like Schumann!).
I totally agree. I think JW takes classical inspirations and makes the music speak more directly with a kind of immediacy that the classical inspirations often lack.

Relatively few actors have had the experience of John Williams writing a theme for their character.
It must be incredible, like Daisy R. and Rey's Theme or Ford and Indy's theme.
The actress who plays Helena was asked about this in an interview:
Quote"I still haven't really found the words for that. I managed to actually meet John at the Oscars," Waller-Bridge says. "To be able to say thank you to him for all the work that has inspired me over the years, but then also to specifically say, 'Thank you for writing me a theme,' was one of the purest and most precious moments in this side of my professional life. That was the best."

One JW signature is his use of brass chorale, especially towards the end of scores, for moments of maximum emotion, sometimes as a kind of "summing it all up" conclusive theme statement. That said, what are your favorite JW brass chorale moments?
Listening to The Patriot soundtrack, while not my favorite, this brief brass moment really hit me at 5:24.

Interesting that Indy 5 was almost a HP2 situation.

Kennedy says all Star Wars films will have a title crawl, moving forward.
But will JW's Main Title accompany them, I wonder?
I would think so. It's the Star Wars signature. I couldn't imagine any other music accompanying an opening Star Wars crawl.

I saw the movie yesterday and have been listening to the OST since Friday. The score works well in the film, but I don't care much for the original music aside from the main original Mario theme which fits very well along side the existing Mario music. Hearing the video game themes integrated into the score is the best part of the music. The licensed songs are not interesting to me at all. Overall, a very fun soundtrack where the video game themes far outshine the original score.

Listening to it now. Just ok so far.

Listening to the soundtrack a 3rd time thru, it has some faults, and I wish Indy's theme featured more, but it does not sound like a copy and paste score to me. The callbacks are fun, and the brief snippets of lifts don't bother me. The soundtrack has plenty of original themes and Helena's theme really shines throughout.
