  1. I think it’s pretty good; and I prefer the arrangement on “Aisle Seat” to the “Summon the Heroes” version. Seems to stay closer to the original.
  2. I've preordered the CD from Amazon, so I'll certainly have it before seeing the movie. I might listen to a concert track or two, if there are any (and maybe the Main Title). Otherwise I'll try to go in cold.
  3. I've always felt as though his success as a conductor comes from his deep knowledge of the symphony orchestra. He always seems to know just how to get the right balance, intonation, and phrasing. His recording of The Planets, for example, is quite good; as good as any other recording I've heard. There's nothing new or earth-shattering about it, but the contrasts between movements is handled very well, and the whole thing just works; I'm not really sure how else to put it. (Of course it helps tremendously that the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and by extension the Boston Pops, is among the finest in the world.) As to whether his technical skills, as in his arm movements, are sloppy or not, I couldn't really care less. It's the finished product that matters, and I've always found his recordings and live concerts to be wonderful.
  4. I agree with Disco Stu! Now the important question is what color will the Episode IX logo be? I say it’ll be blue.
  5. Anybody know who skyy38's pharmacist is? He's clearly run out of his meds and needs a refill.
  6. Indeed, if there was ever a scene that called for a kickass, balls-to-the-wall rendition of the Imperial March, it was when Darth Vader led the clone troopers in the assault on the Jedi Temple.
  7. What I’m more curious about are what pieces were left off of Volume 1. Lockhart said in an interview that the album was created in consultation with Williams, and in fact there were a few selections Lockhart wanted to record, but Williams vetoed them. He didn’t say what they were, but I wonder if AI or The Lost World were among them. I still find it odd they were left of Spielberg/Williams III, in favor of two renditions of the same melody from Lincoln.
  8. I would imagine it's just reissues of all of his releases on Sony Classical, with the exception of the film scores. By my count, unless I'm missing something, it comes exactly to 20 discs: With the Boston Pops: 1 The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration 2 Music of the Night 3 Music for Stage and Screen 4 I Love a Parade 5 The Green Album 6 Joy to the World 7 Unforgettable 8 Night and Day 9 It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing 10 Williams on Williams 11 Summon the Heroes 12 Cinema Serenade 2 13 Star Wars Trilogy (Skywalker Symphony) 14 The Hollywood Sound (London SO) 15 The Five Sacred Trees album (London SO) 16 Gershwin Fantasy (London SO) 17 Cinema Serenade (Pittsburgh SO) 18 American Journey (Utah SO/ LA orchestra) 19 Cello Concerto album w/Yo-Yo Ma (LA orchestra) 20 The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration Vol III (LA orchestra) Other releases, like the 3-disc Music of America and the 80th Birthday Tribute CD are (mostly) compilations of music from these earlier releases, with just a few unique tracks.
  9. The new Intrada release of Honey, I Blew Up the Kid by Bruce Broughton. Cartoonish in the extreme, but what incredible detail in the composition and the orchestra's performance is absolutely top-notch! It certainly won't be my favorite Broughton score, but it definitely adds to my appreciation of him and his work.
  10. Four words: Duel of the Fates. (However, I think TFA is much better in the film itself, given the way TPM was hacked to bits. Also, The Jedi Steps and Finale tramples all over Augie's Great Municipal Band!)
  11. Which guy across the galaxy? If you're talking about Admiral Ozzel, the guy he choked over the video screen, they were both on the same ship..... Ozzel was on the bridge and Vader was in his chambers. Am I forgetting somebody else?
  12. I'm gonna get The Papers, get The Papers.
  13. Like most so far, I buy CDs when I can. But I have nothing against buying a download if that's all that's commercially available.
  14. I thought so too at first, but that just seems way too obvious. Obviously we're all wondering how they will deal with the death of Carrie Fisher, but I can't imagine them being so blatant as to give it away like that in a trailer.
  15. Man, I REALLY hope the Boston Pops do at least one of the Star Wars films live to projection next season! Unfortunately I just can't make it to NYC for these...
  16. My wife and I just watched the first season of Sneaky Pete....it premiered on Amazon video last January so I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not. Stars Giovanni Ribisi as a con man who gets out of prison and assumes his cell mate's identity and moves in with his family while trying to hide from a New York crime boss played by Bryan Cranston. We thought it was a great series, full of twists and turns and colorful characters who get more and more shady as the show goes on, where everybody has dark secrets from each other. Think Ocean's Eleven in suburban Connecticut. A bit far-fetched, insofar as everything has to work out just right, every coincidence and twist plays out just so, but still a lot of fun to watch. Great acting as always by Ribisi, and Cranston plays the suave but menacing crime boss as well as you'd expect. Looking forward to Season 2!
  17. There's a Jehovah's Witness kingdom hall in the hometown where I grew up, and out front there is a big sign for their website, JW.org. I have to admit that for a split second, every time I drive by I wonder why that place is advertising a John Williams fan site!
