This is a great score in itself but it holds a very special place in my heart because it was the first moment that my little sister (aged 4 at the time) actually noticed - and loved - music from a film; she still loves and listens to it now at the age of 20. Yes, it has been that long. Anyway, it often coaxes a nostalgic tear from us both.

The finale, the uninterrupted assemblage of The Water Recedes / Mammoths / With The Herd / Into The Sunset is a moving and stirring seven minutes of awesome music.

It's been 2.5 years since the last "proper" Powell score!  I respect that he wanted to scale back his film work, but it's interesting to compare Powell in his late 50s to Williams in his late 50s, when the latter was leading the Boston Pops, writing concertos, and writing scores like Last Crusade, Always, Presumed Innocent, Home Alone, Hook, etc.

(yes, obviously, covid is a mitigating circumstance here)

The least of the Dante/Goldsmith cinematic formulations in terms of ingenuity, it' still enjoyable in a cozy, late-afternoon tv kind of way. Its main selling point for sure is the silky, nostalgic seven note theme introduced in 'Coming Attractions' that accompanies the prototypical Dante stroll tough a Rockwellian american small town. By 1993 Goldsmith had these pat down, and the movie's charmingly satirical dividends (the time cuban missile crisis, hucksters, radiation-caused movie monsters) are all addressed appropriately, though there's a strong going-through-the-motions vibe, which was typical for the early to mid 90's Goldsmith before his rebound in 1995. Goldsmith only once refers to the movie's hilarious 'Them!' parody 'Mant' in a broad macabre fright motif (to be found twice in the 'Showtime' cue) and it's a shame that nothing more came of it. It's great 'Burbs' territory.

What if Disney releases the complete and expanded John Williams Star Wars scores, but exclusively on vinyl, with bonus tracks you cannot get anywhere else?

I BEAT HOLLOW KNIGHT LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!

I had done everything else the game had to offer (except the Colosseum of The Fool... can't do it) and had been stuck on THE RADIANCE for a while now.  Just endlessly attempting the fight over and over again and failing miserably every time.  i walk away for about a week, and then last night sat down and spent about 3 hours trying the fight over and over again until I finally won!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy was it satisfying when I landed that death blow, and got the final cutscene of the good ending.

Anybody else have any stories of a particular difficult final (or anywhere I guess) boss that you finally beat?

I almost feel like I don't know what to do with myself now lol

51 hours to (107%) completion... And the last probably 4 of that was just fighting The Radiance!

I finished my second playthrough of Hollow Knight Friday evening.

This time I defeated the Hollow Knight and rolled credits 33 1/2 hours into the game, a huge improvement over my first playthrough a few years ago (that savefile has just under 67 hours listed!)

Since it was still only the "bad ending", I've stayed with it and am doing the rest of the work needed to get the "good ending" - on Saturday I defeated the Traitor Lord and got that Kingsoul half, and on Sunday I finished the White Palace and got the other Kingsoul half.  Being turning it into the Void Heart and getting the good ending, I've been doing other things and gone past 100% completion - I found every grub, got all the charms & Salubra's blessing, fully upgraded my nail, got all mask shards and vessel fragments, etc etc.  The only things I haven't done besides the real endings is defeated Grimm to get a Charm Notch, Banished the Grimm Troupe or defeated Nightmare Grimm, gotten 2400 Essence, and done the third Colosseum of Fools.  The jury's out on whether I'll do all four of those, and wether I'll attempt the Gods and Monsters stuff, but I do intend to get that good ending!

    Silksong can't come soon enough...

Hearing the Fallen Kingdom theme a couple times brought a smile. Earlier ribbing aside, FK’s still a fun listen. Giacchino’s action writing is really corny in a way I find endearing in a monster movie context.
My main gripe is that, compared to, say, Powell, he doesn’t intertwine his themes within the score nearly enough. Powell sees action sequences as just as much of a chance to express character or story themes as any other kind of scene, whereas Giacchino just sledgehammers away and has nothing to say.

Finally found time to play video games again and you'd think with all the purchased but unstarted games I have I'd play something new to me....

..but instead I started a second play-through of Hollow Knight.

I was kinda shocked to see the time on my original save file was 67 hours!  And I didn't even get the "real" ending, only the "bad" one.  Damn!

1 hour 45 minutes into my replay I've explored most of Crossroads & Greenpath and gotten the map, quill, and Vengeful Spirit.  And I'm fucking loving it all over again.  Kind of wish I had that Switch OLED though...

The guy in that cut ending yelling “That really sucks, lady!” is the best part of Titanic.  A shame that they cut this.

I’ve never heard Titanic (other than the Enya track), so you won’t see me ragging on it. Just find it amusing I see more “Overrated” posts than posts praising it.
