Great catch, thanks! It's not quite literal enough to my ears to be a motivic repetition, but it does sure sound like he's going for the same musical effect, with these wide, angular intervals in the brass. And the fact that both start on G#/Ab makes the connection hard not to hear now that you've pointed out. Yet another great detail in the TLJ score!

There should be a theme for people firing blasters, a theme for troopers talking into walkie talkies, and a motif for each vehicle involved in the chase! Such a wasted opportunity, Williams is just phoning it in!

Dunno why anyone would complain about this music.  It's 30 seconds of a clearly much longer cue.  You can find 30 second sections of many film music compositions that don't tell you much about the composition as a whole.
 
I don't think anybody should have been expecting JW to come up with an entirely brand new way to score a chase scene in a Star Wars movie 9 films in.  This music isn't groundbreaking but there's nothing wrong with it at all.  Bring on the whole cue!

Ugh. More whimsical action music going nowhere fast, much like THE LAST JEDI. Fortunately, my expectations are rock bottom for this, so I'm not likely to be disappointed, but I'm hoping for a few more thematic ideas here than TLJ. One month to go!

TLJ is full of thematic ideas, though.  Did you not notice Holdo, Rose, and Luke all got new themes? And that Rey's theme and the Resistance March go through tons of new permutations?  Granted a lot of this stuff isn't on the album, but it's all heard in the film

Really surprised to see so many people saying it's Williams. Sounds close but I'm gonna have to go with "not Williams" on this one. Really good impersonation though! Probably library music. Brass are clearly samples. I work with samples on a daily basis, 32 hours a day, 9 days a week, so I know what I'm talking about when I say this isn't a real orchestra. If this ends up being Williams, I'll eat my hat. Might be leftover music from the Verizon commercial. I know Williams and this ain't him.

I think only seeing the film reel by reel was the bigger offender. How was he able to craft a holistically logical score watching the film out of order in twenty minutes chunks? It goes against his preferred experience, not having that "discovery" of the film felt by the audience (also working backwards from the final reels). 
 
All things considered, it's pretty remarkable the thematic development he did achieve in the score, but I've no doubt many early versions of cues lacked that development because he only had JJ's verbal explanations about where the story was heading. 
 
I really hope he got a proper rough cut screening of TROS in March (seeing as they edited during production this time around). That he had 25 minutes in the can by April/May is a good sign. 

Anybody else like those Final Fantasy games? There should be a forum for them. Or even a shrine.

I was initially annoyed that they were dragging out Williams' assignment, but this looks like pure joy and respect.

I wonder if, considering this was the last John Williams Star Wars recording session, if they recorded something special...
 
Expectation: An epic suite covering all the major themes of the nine movies.
 
Reality: A 16 seconds insert on a very minor cue comprised mostly of suspenseful strings that won't even be audible on the movie that JW had to write on the last few days as Abrams kept changing the edit.
