From the a few different interviews I have seen him give, I have a feeling that Harrison knows just how important film music truly is.

    Absolutely. LOTS of never-before-seen photos.

    Yes—it's included in the book!

No secret! Richard Dreyfuss, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Henry Thomas, and Elliott Gould are the ones who come to mind. Actors don't often have that much insight into the film music process, but I was curious to talk to some specific people who had a special connection to JW's music.

2–3 times a month on average. All told I think I interviewed him for about 25 hours.

Regular enough that Williams needed to cancel his summer concerts.

I started working on the book in early 2020. I didn't interview JW for it until October 2022. (And yes, there is quite a story about that long gap!) I then interviewed him on a regular basis for 18 months.

I did all of the other interviews myself over the course of the past 4.5 years. This has been going on long enough that I was able to talk to Ken Wannberg, Leslie Bricusse, Ginny Mancini (Henry's wife), and several others before they passed away.

James Cameron would say to you to get a life and get out of your mom's basement!
But yeah, these Cameron AI UHDs are awful, and what's worse, they're getting stellar reviews from - sometimes - esteemed reviewers!

I know this is coming out in 2025, but I dreamt last night that I unwrapped a gift on Christmas morning: it was a tome that was between 500 and 600 pages: “John Williams: Adventures On Earth.” It had a nice photo of the Maestro on the front cover. The dream ended right when I had opened the book. Damn tease.

Clearly a nod to the member of the Vienna Philharmonic who was really enjoying himself playing the Main Title...

Maybe three weeks ago? He is good! I can't say more with respect for his privacy, but he has many exciting plans and hopes for the coming year.

It's still awaiting a final layout, but it will most likely be between 500–600 pages.

I'm just happy there's so much enthusiasm here for the book! (Jokey titles and all.) I'm more than glad to answer any questions I can in this pre-release phase, but I will definitely post more substantial updates as soon as I can and I'll also be doing a lot of behind-the-scenes storytelling (in some other venue) to promote the book once the publication date is a little more imminent. Thanks for your patience in the meantime, and please don't hesitate to ask me anything.

Was it your way of paying homage to John Williams by editing out the best part in order to create a curated, succint and pleasant reading experience?

The main thing I'd argue in favor of the banter and jokes (besides just being fun) is that they inadvertently keep the thread at the top of the forum when there is actual recent news. Anybody checking in this week could see the thread was going wild and discover Tim/Maestro's updates in here. The jokes are about as useful for that as commenting "Cool!" and "Yay!" and "I can't wait!" over and over.

I get a little annoyed too when a thread on something exciting just gets bumped with a joke or "Any news?" after weeks or months of inactivity. But hey, BB-8's dumb book cover spurred an irritated JohnnyD to ask about the dead link which got Tim in here. Necessary evils...

I feel like this thread is still pretty safely in the afterglow of knowing the book is done, will get an audiobook, JW has read it and gave Tim freedom through the process to write candidly. Hopefully Tim has more teases to share soon but we just got a ton of first-hand reporting on this book! Huzzah!

Well, there isn't much to do than wait at this point, Johnny. I'm sure actual updates on the book will come in due time, and posted here, when it's closer to release date. While I also find the endless banter and joking tiring here on JWFAN, I don't mind a little bit of 'shooting the breeze' to pass the waiting time. They're easily scrolled by, anyway.

I was in a shopping mall and heard Abandoned in the Woods from AI over the speakers. A very unexpected and odd choice for shopping mall background music. I presume it was on a compilation album that they were using.

Having failed to stem the tide of title jokes, @JohnnyD settles for an attempt to redirect the momentum toward fake Photoshopped cover ideas.  Good luck to you, sir.
