Just received this email from Vienna's Musikverein:
Dear friends of music,
"A Tribute to John Williams" - under this title, the concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra which was scheduled for last year will take place on 18th and 19th of January 2020 at the Wiener Musikverein. We are pleased to announce the commitment of John Williams to perform selected highlights from his rich musical output with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a ticket purchaser of the cancelled concert from last November, we wanted to inform you, exclusively before the official release date on October 22, 2019, that the concerts will take place.
As a member of the previous season, we would like to offer you the opportunity to buy tickets as soon as the sale for the members launches, even if you have not renewed your membership for this season. This possibility is not associated with any obligation and of course free of charge.
Start of presale:
Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 9.00h (members of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde)
Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 09.00h (start of the general presale)
Concert tickets can be purchased at www.musikverein.at or in person / by telephone at the Konzertkassa of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde.
The two concert dates are:
Saturday, 18 January 2020 at 15.30
Sunday, 19 January 2020 at 11.00
We would be happy to welcome you to one of the two concerts at the Musikverein.

What @rough cut said Except in our tour she added that he really, really wants to do this and apparently that Musikverein management is already in talks to make his bucket list come true.

The official info is that they looked for a substitute conductor when they got news of JW being unable to conduct, but nobody was available on such short notice. That being said, I guess one of the key factors that convinced the Wiener music direction to agree on a program of mostly film music was the fact JW himself would have been conducting.
Where did you get that info? The tour guide yesterday said that after some discussions they have decided to cancel the concerts because John wants to do it himself, it’s his bucket list.

I have to say, seeing that place in person (he would’ve been 6 feet away from me...), and all the info from the tour guide that’s been working there for almost 20 years, I am now pretty confident that this will happen. She confirmed it’s his bucket list and he wants to conduct his own music at that venue, so when (no longer if for me lol) comes back, it’ll be at Musikverein. They said not this season, but maybe next one. What a place! Such energy, quite indescribable. Also, there were several messages left for Johnny at the entrance - if someone could get this to him, to show him that he indeed is missed so much here in Vienna as well.

I’m in Vienna today, will be taking the English tour of the Musikverein, if anyone else is coming; I’ll be the one wearing all black and glasses :)

Hm, do you think they will hand out tickets to a cancelled and refunded concert?
Anyway - when do you intend to be there, roughly?
We'll arrive on Friday in the late afternoon, and after a nice breakfast and maybe some cultural events which we will decide upon in the hotel room looking through the event calendar, we could meet there. I intend to lug with me the heavy Williams binder I have been adding to since about 26 years. There's barely room for a couple of tickets/pages more in there...
See you soon, maybe,
ML
If you have been refunded already or your refund is on its way, then the ticket has already been destroyed. I asked them if I can have it, and they said I can pick it up, and they'll refund me in cash at the box office, so I'll do that. I'm arriving on Saturday morning, have a day packed full and flying out Sunday morning, but perhaps we can meet for lunch or something
And yeah, if anyone has an mp3 of the stream in good quality, please let me know. -
While I'm asking for favors lol, can anyone shoot me a PM with a link to a high quality version of the stream? Much obliged.

You can buy the membership now and the tickets on Tuesday, that's what I did last year; you don't need to have the physical card, it's all online
