GerateWohl reacted to Archive Collection in Sony Classical to release Ultimate Star Wars Soundtrack Collection (January 8, 2016)
This could be really cool…
Even a complete collection of the concert suites and arrangements from the Skywalker films, plus spin-offs like Solo and Obi-Wan.
The amount of music JW has composed is staggering, and I think even this selection of pieces would be a great presentation of his work across the saga.
I would buy a massive collection of new performances of his whole “Signature” collection of works, all of his concert suites across his entire filmography - not just Star Wars!

GerateWohl got a reaction from JTN in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
I adore this cue and especially the use or rather the absence of percussion. Such power and dynamics. Which modern composer would have been able to resist here to use drums in such an action piece. But it is so full of energy. There I believe, there is no film music composer who can and ever could do this like Williams.

GerateWohl got a reaction from Jay in Are Star Wars and 1989 Batman the biggest gambles that paid off in a huge way?
This is a good example. When I hear that music then I see in front of my inner eye an old Warner or Disney cartoon film. From the arrangement, the quick change of pace, the Mickey Mousing.
Today you wouldn't find such music in an action movie. It is in a way old school. Like when Stalling Around is played during the animated film in Jurassic Park and Hammon says "The music will be exchanged later with something more dramatic."
By the way, I like Elfman's Batman score. Especially the second one.
And it is appropriate for the movie: Cartoonish.

GerateWohl reacted to Naïve Old Fart in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
The whole thing from the start of "Everybody Runs!", to the end of "Anderton's Great Escape", is my favourite part of the score.

GerateWohl got a reaction from Holko in Bernard Herrmann's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH & ON DANGEROUS GROUND - Intrada Records 2022 Kickstarter
Did anybody address this on the Intrada forum?

GerateWohl got a reaction from Jurassic Shark in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Disney Records Original Soundtrack Album) - NO FILM SPOILERS!
There were also spiders in Raiders and scorpions in Crystal Skull.
Maybe this time we get piranhas? Or just maggots and leeches.
Or all?
Plus the Ewoks of course.

GerateWohl got a reaction from Brónach in Empire Of The Sun - La-La Land 2CD
Empire of the Sun is definitely not one of these more-of-the-same expansions. Compared to the OST there is so much beautiful and very different stuff to be found. It is almost like a whole additional score.
Big recommendation!

GerateWohl got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Danny Elfman's BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE (2024)
I listened to the OST of Beetlejuice again the day before yesterday and it was better than I remembered it.
I have not so many remembrances of the movie, jus that I enjoyed it more than other Burton flics of that time.
And the ghost and the efects reminded me somehow of Freddy Kruger, just suitable for a younger audience.

GerateWohl reacted to Tom Guernsey in Jerry Goldsmith - The Secret of NIMH (new Intrada Expanded)
Ditto - think it was last year (or it could have been pre-Covid... that time is a bit of a blank in all our memories at times I think!) that I saw it live conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen in London and it was a terrific performance. However, quite agree that it feels like an impossibly expensive work to stage as a ballet. To be honest, the music stands perfectly well on its own as a concert piece/tone poem (like the Stravinsky ballets), indeed it's a piece where I'd rather focus on the music!

PETA Gives James Gunn an Award for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’: ‘An Animal Rights Masterpiece’
The film's horrific depiction of animal testing led the organization to call it "the best animal rights film of the year."

GerateWohl got a reaction from MrJosh in The Composer's Thread
Well crafted as usual.
The trombone melody at the beginning reminds me heavily on Summon the Heroes by the way. But why not. I would like to hear that at the beginning of a good adventure movie for the studio logo.

Not with my Goddaughter, you don't.

GerateWohl reacted to MrJosh in Sabrina 2 CD from La-La Land Records (2023)
I listened to the main score program (not alternates yet) and really, really enjoyed it. The score as a whole feels nicely fleshed out, is not too repetitive to me and is a nice overall length at 53+ minutes.
I really enjoy the nice woodwind writing and performances throughout the score, and the warmth of the writing throughout. I liked hearing the different keyboards sprinkled throughout the score in addition to the beautiful piano playing. There is the Randy Kerber celeste sound in some tracks, there is the harpsichord bits which are fun, and then some other synth noises, similar or the same as the synth 'chime' (?) sounds in Home Alone and reminding me of the synth bell noise in 'Hide and Seek' from ChatGPT A.I.
It's a beautiful score with a lot of nice intimate moments, along with more grand flourishes of romanticism. Really happy to have this expansion!

Yes. Harmonically Mr. Doyle has a tendency to repeat himself a lot. He has a handfull of favourite chords and chord progressions.

GerateWohl reacted to JTN in Bernard Herrmann's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH & ON DANGEROUS GROUND - Intrada Records 2022 Kickstarter
Received my copy yesterday, listened to it on a regular CD player, loved both scores very much. I only heard the great music, but I’m old and don’t have a spectogram. Anyway, thanks to Intrada for releasing these wonderful Bernard Herrmann scores.
