THE SOUND QUALITY ON THIS IS FANTASTIC!

The military theme (or whatever it's called) at the end of Unstable (Film Version) is very very cool, something I've wanted since seeing the film!

In Case You Succeed is a nice little cue

Orion (Film Version) is like the album version but part of it is repeated.  I assume it was recorded this way to fit the scene, and not actually looped by the film's music editor

Send In The Probe is really cool!  Nice to have something so mysterious early on in the presentation, it really helps the overall experience.  The warm ending with some ethnic instrument and some nice choir work is awesome!

Entering The Stargate (Film Version) Not sure what's different from the album version off the top of my head

King Of The Slaves (Film Version) Not sure what's different from the album version off the top of my head

Spread Out Wow, this was a really really cool cue, I liked it a lot!  A part in the middle reminded me a bit of Silvestri's The Abyss.  Overall a nice exercise in mounting tension!

Skaara and Gun Nice little cue

Sarcophagus Opens (With Choir) This was AWESOME, I LOVED the choir!

Daniel's Mastadge (Film Version) Seemed to be more or less the same as the album version but orchestrated slightly differently, especially towards the beginning?

Leaving Nagada (Film Version) Not sure what's different from the album version off the top of my head, perhaps some different orchestration a little under 3 minutes in?

Ra - The Sun God (Film Version) Wow pretty nifty choral chanting here!!  I love it

Battle at the Pyramid (Film Version) Heh, pretty surprising little moment around 45 seconds in.  At least one other difference I noticed later

The Stargate Opens (Alternate Excerpt) Basically the same until the end, which is a nice different ending I enjoyed

The Eye of Ra (With Choir) Wow!  More awesome choir!  I loved it, I'll be putting this version in my main program for sure

Ra - The Sun God (Film Version Excerpt, No Choir) Basically the beginning of the cue as heard in the main program, but without the choir so you can hear the orchestral detail

End Credits (Alternate Take) Basically a slightly different, I suppose less interesting version of the end credits than the film/main program version

So happy this is out, this is a great release!

And again....THE SOUND QUALITY ON THIS IS FANTASTIC!

I was lucky enough to receive this from Father Christmas yesterday and played it through for the first time this afternoon.  It is such a thrill to finally have the film score recording, but a few words on the remastered 1974 soundtrack album recording to start with; while I never had any problem with the sound on the Varese Sarabande CD (which was actually the first John Williams score CD I bought back in the day!), the remastered sound on this new CD is phenomenal.  I particularly noticed how much clearer the horns were on Love Theme, for example, but in every track I hear details I had not noticed before.

The separation of the album versions of Miles' Pool Hall and Sam's Rescue into individual tracks - as per Williams's original intention - is also great.  These two tracks could rightfully be asterisked with [* includes previously unreleased music], as both include significant amounts of music not heard in the Medley track, simply because it was faded in or faded out to create that Frankenstein's monster of an album track, much as I have always loved it.  When I heard the clean opening of Miles' Pool Hall I thought they had switched reels on me there for a few seconds!

The film score recording is fantastic to have.  I have wanted to hear this music in good quality ever since I first watched the film years ago and realised that the music in the film was a different recording than what was on the soundtrack CD.  I expected that if ever the music saw the light of day, it would at best be like one of those archival recordings Cloud 9 Records used to release with more pops and crackles than Edison singing Mary Had A Little Lamb, but not a bit of it - the sound on this is remarkably good.  Although I was familiar with most of the unreleased music, there is so much of it that can finally be heard properly outside the film.  Much of the cue Washed Away is pretty much inaudible in the film due to the sound effects, but now it can be heard in all its glory.  There are also cues that are partially or even mostly dialled out in the film but can now be heard in full (I'm looking at you, Something For Rosa).

I also love having the two versions of Aftermath, for a long time one of my most wanted unreleased Williams confections.  The fascinating unused cue does not sound quite sad enough somehow, almost as if the music is reflecting the awesomeness of the natural forces at work rather than the devastation wrought by the quake.  This is a great release and finally presents the music the way it deserves and in a way much more representative of the score as heard in the film.  I think it's beautiful!

This is the quote: "Williams expanded the material to include a new arrangement of his "city theme"; a revised version of his finale, retitled The City Sleeps; and included music written for, but not ultimately used, in the film (Finale, End Title)."

Got to see this at Wembley Arena on Thursday. Couldn't turn down the chance to see Elfman perform live and he didn't disappoint. All the singers were great, Catherine O'Hara and Ken Page also reprised their roles from the film. The film is a bit light at only 76 minutes so they packed it out with a bit of a suite beforehand set to Tim Burton's original sketches and artwork, a Sandy Cameron led violin medley and an encore of Elfman performing Oogie Boogie's Song. Elfman's voice sounded great but also it was great to see him really get into the performance physically, inhabiting the character so well. All in all, a really fun night. You could tell that lots of people in the crowd really, really love this film - plenty of cosplay!

Definitely; this guy also spent two years of research on this so he really thought this through. I would very much recommend watching this (you don't need to sit through it in one go either), but only if you've watched all of Twin Peaks. Because it really does explain most if not all of its concepts.

I had always wanted to see how well Kamen's original approach functioned in this scene compared to the music tracked from Die Hard, so I whipped up a video that approximated his original intentions. The timing isn't perfect, but I think it covers the most significant beats. I'd really like to see the version of the film that Kamen scored someday

It was really lovely. Seeing Williams speak and conduct his music was a wonderful thing. Made me feel quite emotional. He appeared at the very start of the evening to introduce the concert. It was quite obvious he's going to conduct the SW section (plus Yoda's Theme and The Imperial March encores) when David Newman mentioned there might be a "surprise" at the end.

    Other thoughts:

Absolutely loved The Cowboys and Jane Eyre segments.

Galaxy's Edge was good to hear but the piece itself doesn't convince me one bit.

It was nice to see three segments conducted to film. The E.T. was the opening sequence as indicated on the programme. SPR was the opening cue followed by the shortened Hymn to the Fallen and JP had the dinosaur reveal scene with chorus followed by the fanfare.

Amistad was played faster than usual. I really enjoyed it.

The Williams conducted segment: The Adventures of Han was played bit slower than the soundtrack recording. It's a really fun piece. Luke and Leia was the shortened version. After that, he spoke about having completed 100 minutes of the new score and having to go back to his "other job" the next day and write another 40 minutes due to film changes. And that it is a lot of music. He said he was assured by Disney this is  the "last film" and then added it will be the last one he does. Whether he was being serious is anybody's guess. Then he conducted the Main Title and the two encores. Again, it was a thrilling and emotional thing to witness.

I really enjoyed Tanglewood. I'm also glad me and Marian arrived early to wander about a bit. You can understand why he keeps coming back to this place - it's very relaxing. Quite a lot of people arrived later on so it lost its peaceful vibe to the big summer concert excitement.

I'm glad we decided to go, especially after what happened last year in London. While only small segment was conducted by Williams himself it was still more than worth all the money. You can tell he's quite old now especially when he walks but, oddly, that goes away as he starts to conduct. It's like doing that gives him new energy. It made me think of that Yoda duel scene in AOTC actually. 😄

He probably just wanted to check that he doesn't leave out any themes when he puts all of them in the new score.

I think either it's supposed to start at 0:11 as I suggested before, or it doesn't replace material (since the music in the video posted above seems to work OK too).

The beginning of the "2M4 Insert Diagon Alley Reveal" sketch says "Overlap Bar 6 Orig 2M4" and shows it starting at 0:10.2 seconds

The end of the sketch says "Overlap Bar 9 orig 2m4" and shows a time of 0:25 something, so the Insert was certainly meant to replace a portion of the original cue

I wanted to include 2M4 without this Insert as a bonus track on disc 3, but it wasn't meant to be.  Luckily, you can hear WIlliams' original intentions before the Insert existed via the session leak.

As for the logo music, I don't think you can read too much into the whole prologue cue being 1M1 and the logo cue being 1M2; There was certainly never an intention to put the WB logos anywhere but at the beginning of the film, and the prologue cue ends with a flourish that only could have been written for the same on-screen titles it syncs to now.  I'd guess when spotting the film initially they didn't think that perhaps they could override the WB music that normally plays over the WB logo with their own music, so that was written later when someone came up with the idea.
