As soon as they announced the box set I put them up for sale.  They didn't sell for what they used to go for but still enough to pay for the new box set.

I wouldn't say that it's the best piece on the soundtrack, but ever since the expanded soundtracks have come out "On The Tank" has been my favorite most listened-to track.

Same here. I already own the OST albums, all 3. And I hardly ever listen to them. That's why I hesitated.

But who are we kidding. I'll get it, of course... Eventually! Just for completeness' sake!

Much better than the hideous cover art we got in the jewel case. When I ripped this into my iTunes I reordered the tracks to make the OST disc 1 using the original cover art, the film score tracks as disc 2 using the hideous LLL cover art and the alternates and bonus stuff as disc 3 using he disaster box cover art.  I’ll definitely update the cover art using this new one.

I do this with all deluxe sets where the OST presentation is part of the program.  When scrolling through my albums I’d rather see the original cover art.  Rarely do I prefer expanded/deluxe edition cover art over the original.  LLL’s Towering Inferno cover art is especially ugly. Earthquake is close enough to the original that I used that. This latest edition of Poseidon Adventure is the best cover art yet for that one.

Don’t know what you mean by “on repeat” but I usually listen to music in shuffle mode and when “The Helicopter Sequence” from Superman comes on I have to listen that one twice in a row.

Hay @MrScratch and other ticket holders for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's Star Wars Concert Series,
the orchestra gave a statement on the new scheduling for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi LTPs:

Here's hoping that the orchestra doesn't go on strike, again, during the season.

And it's official.  Postponed until spring.  New dates will be announced in the next couple weeks.

If anyone here has tickets to next week's Empire Strikes Back LTP concert at the Baltimore Symphony, the musicians are currently on strike and the concerts next weekend are in danger of being cancelled or postponed.  This sucks.

MrScratch got a reaction from Josh500 in If it wasn't for John Williams, would you still be a fan of orchestral film scores?
Good question, I selected "Probably not".  It was through Williams that I discovered other film composers and classical music, etc.  I don't see that happening if this kind of music wasn't presented to me in such a way via Lucas/Spielberg/Williams in the early 1980s.

It's not an ideal release by any means but overall still enjoyable at the time for all the great music that was left off of the OST.  I still have my copy of it.

MrScratch reacted to Tanglehead in John Williams at Star Wars live-score concert at Tanglewood
    Long-time lurker (since 2006!), first-time poster here.

Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops orchestra performed the live score to the original Star Wars on August 16, 2019 at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. John Williams was in attendance and made an appearance on stage at the end of the performance.

The Pops did a great job with the musical accompaniment. I’m a long-time fan of the score and the movie (as a kid, I saw the film more than 40 times in theaters!), and I was very impressed. Lockhart was visibly tired at the end of the first half and at the film’s conclusion.

Here are some videos, shot off one of the large screens facing the lawn crowd. The picture is sometimes off-kilter (I wasn’t looking through my phone as I shot it), but it will give you an idea of how it sounded. It’s also interesting to see where the split up the film for the intermission. (As an interesting note, the Pops did not perform the music in the cantina sequence.)

As a Berkshire County resident, I’ve been lucky enough to meet Williams a few times, most recently at Tanglewood. He was there walking the grounds one evening, before a concert with which he was not associated, and I got a picture with him. Clearly he enjoys just being there. He was in good spirits and seems in good health.

I own every legally released John Williams composition there is, my favorites are his great classic blockbuster scores specifically his 1975-1984 blockbusters, so I guess I just love great melodic symphonic film music.  I like all of John's scores to some degree, the only ones I don't really care for are John Goldfarb and The Terminal.  I even greatly enjoy his jazz/pop infused scores like Cinderella Liberty, Not With My Wife You Don't and Earthquake.

In general, I'm always looking for new music, it doesn't have to be similar to something I already like.  I'm on Spotify all the time looking for new (new to me) music but I find their film score/soundtrack selection to be lacking.  Jerry has 60 or so soundtracks which is maybe a quarter of total film score output.

Some of the Goldsmith CDs I got were cheap eBay add-ons from sellers I was buying other stuff from.

Oh absolutely.  I know a lot of his themes but with the exception of POTA I never listen to a Jerry score in it's entirety, unlike Williams.  First Knight, The Mummy and Poltergeist probably come the closest.
