Docteur Qui got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in GAME OF THRONES
The score was what it needed to be. When it was great it was great (Light of the Seven, to a lesser extent The Night King). A flashy, colourfully orchestrated score would never have worked for the tone the producers wanted, and the pressures of television scoring (endless versions and insanely fast turnarounds) require a synth-heavy approach. Djawadi did a great job with the tools he had.
The final statement of Daenerys' theme intertwined with the main theme as Drogon flies away is quite moving.

That was as good as I was hoping for. Didn't love it or hate it, but a pretty satisfying ending all things considered. It was never going to be perfect, nor would any ending have pleased everyone. While another 10 or so episodes would've made the plot threads more cohesive I suspect the world was ready for the show to end and move on. What an incredible journey.

Eh I’m not going to engage with that. Incompetence and stupidity are incredibly strong words. They managed to finish a multi-million dollar production and concluded the storylines of dozens of characters. If you didn’t like it that’s fine, but they did the job. If they were truly incompetent then the season never would’ve made it to air. Have some perspective.
I’m not arguing that, but when there’s scenes that to my mind have a very clear message (like the one with Jaime) being misrepresented because of the “Dany forgot” meme I feel like people’s judgement is being clouded.
There’s some great writing to be found in these episodes, pardon me for trying to look past the major flaws so we can discuss them.

Oh for sure, the execution wasn't graceful at all, and much of the nuance is lost when things move at such a fast pace, but I suspect that was the scene's intention.
Really, most of the criticisms that are being levelled at this season are the result of the execution of it which I totally agree with. But I'm not a fan all the bad-faith readings of the writers just having suddenly taken stupid pills. They're still the same writers that brought so much nuance to the earlier seasons, and they've continued to show a lot of that in the last few seasons. You just have to look for it a bit more.

Joking aside, I took Jamie’s line about the common folk to be a bit of false bravado, his kingslayer persona coming through one last time. I don’t think it’s meant to be taken literally - he really did kill the king to save the people and did care for their fate - but the complex feelings he has about himself and Cersei ultimately betray him and lead him to his death. Not all addicts recover, and Jaimie’s relapse is a tragedy. It’s not the waste of an arc - he really did find redemption - but he’s also a fallible human. To me that’s very on-brand with this world.

Agreed.
And while it wasn't as good as it it could have been I still don’t think this season was as bad as the Internet is making it out to be.
But then again, the Internet isn’t exactly known for nuance.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the OST yet but I’m looking forward to it.
It’s 2 hours long and nothing is listed as a bonus track. Do you think the CD release will have 2 discs?

Aesthetic decision. Seth MacFarlane is too much of a film-score/ST nerd not to have a traditional orchestral score, and as executive producer/creator he ensured it would happen. That would've included a large budget for orchestrators, engravers, the orchestra itself etc.
While the music for GoT is a very important aspect of the show it wouldn't have received the same priority. Not when there's CGI dragons and top-billed stars to pay for. I think Djawadi still had plenty of people on his team, and there are a lot of recorded elements, but much of the underscore is simple statements of thematic material under heavy dialogue scenes which can easily be faked with high-quality samples. Obviously the more traditionally cinematic sequences had real instruments blended in, as is the common practice with television scores these days.

I can't imagine Jon would've wanted to do anything other than go back beyond the wall even given the choice. He ended up where he belonged.
The only other appropriate fate would've been death by dragonfire after killing Dany. I wouldn't have minded that, but what we got was fine as well.

It's not meant to be subtle. I found it clever and powerful. I realize it's the trend of the day to find flaws anywhere and everywhere in the show, but no need to go looking for them where there is none.

No need to be sarcastic. It was a superb, goosebump-inducing shot -- one of the reasons why I followed this show: the cinematography, mise-en-scene and so on.

Made perfect sense to me.
I don't care about crazy fan ravings complaining that the series didn't end exactly how they wanted it to. These guys need to take a chill pill.

It didn’t even need to be as dark or disturbing as it was. It just needed more weight behind it.
More emphasis on the failings of the Jedi as a whole, more reasons for him to want to see them destroyed. Ironically Kylo Ren has more solid motivations than Anakin ever did.

I’m along for the ride. It is what it is, and I’m feeling thankful we even got to see the end of such an ambitious undertaking, flaws and all.
There’s much to be enjoyed if you can look past “what could’ve been”.

Well that’s it really - having the short cues cleanly presented means that anyone with even a very basic knowledge of audio sequencing can edit a listening experience that best suits them. That’s not so easy to do when the cues are already merged into each other

Very cool! I wonder if it will all be in the one session, or this will be the first of a few?
Great interview as well, Sandy sounds like a riot! I love the story of her screaming during the Jaws sessions!

I was asked to write a short demo for a short film project coming up. I whipped up a bit of a David Arnold Bond/Giacchino Medal of Honor pastiche. It was a lot of fun, I might flesh it out when I get the chance. Enjoy!
