Yeah I finally heard the score in the film. I think this will be the best Giacchino film score when we have the c.d. Way better than Star Trek

I didn't hear the clip from the website in the film

Y'know, because you are so picky....

I have to say you're not helping my patience for this score by approving of it.

You should always abide by the Mark Olivarez trademark seal of approval.

It will never let you down.

Finally got to see this the other day (my brother took pity on me and agreed to go with me) and it was even better than I could have hoped. The film itself was everything I wanted it to be and more, and the score was exactly what I was hoping for. Not gonna lie, I teared up at the end (though my allergies were mega bad all day) and cursed Giacchino's name for making me do it once again.

It was all right, but didn't go as far as making me tear up. I guess it's supposed to be about the double son/daughter/dad reconciliation , but it should be about the creature too and you don't give a shit about it. And it doesn't give a shit about the humans .I half expected it to turn aroung and give everyone the finger as it boarded it's spaceship

I would have been tearing up if it weren't for the two 16 year old bitches sitting next to me. Throughout the whole movie they were audibly talking, texting, laughing, shoving each other, and providing a very unique yet retarded commentary on the film.

I wanted to slap them so hard. Maybe I should have, cause I don't work at the theater anymore

Do you like working at Best Buy better than working in the theater?

My retail career started in a supermarket and ended in a movie theater, and I loved working at the movie theater

You two weren't alone.

I'm stunned. I found it a disgustingly bad movie with a cringeworthy story. But i will stop the sourpussing now for those who saw the light. :P

3 of us have real good taste in film music. ;)

Best Buy has some serious drawbacks, the source of which lie within company and therefore nothing can be done about. How the hell am I supposed to sell replacement plans that cost 50% of the item?!

I definitely prefer it over AMC, there you get no respect whatsoever.

It's a shame they hold that kind of stuff against you when you don't sell replacement plans and all. I know they held it against us when I worked at Kmart.

Thankfully, aside from a stint at 6 Flags Great Adventure last summer I'm pretty much done with retail now. Teaching and freelance horn playing has brought in enough money that I won't need to work in a store anymore!

I honestly don't know how they stay in business, Amazon is better in almost every possible way. I always get people complaining about us not having a particular DVD or CD. It's called the internet people, where selection is never an issue.

I don't know how Amazon hasn't put all these electronics and video stores out of business. The only places I can find comparable prices on media are second hand record and video shops.

It'll start. Amazon offers better discounts on electronics that Best Buy won't even touch. I got shit from one employee who said they will price match Amazon, and shit from the manager who said they couldn't possibly honor it, because Amazon doesn't have the brick and mortar considerations of a Best Buy to worry about.

+1

I haven't been to a normal shop to buy any sort of media for about 4 years now. Amazon marketplace is the new high street.

Yeah we only price match brick and mortar competition.

Am I the only one who heard a VERY (as I suspected it would be all along) Williams-esque score throughout SUPER 8?

Yes, and not just the Finale. That's why I'm curious to hear the c.d.

No I didn't hear anything that sounded like Williams.

Oh, definitely. There was one part where I'm almost positive they tempted the aggressive section of "Far from Home" from E.T. The themes for the military were also similar to the bad guy themes from E.T. Still, it was different enough for me to want the soundtrack.

Is the CD's release date being pushed back again? It's like week before it's supposed to be released and there's still no cover art or tracklisting? And it doesn't even appear on many online stores' websites...

What Abrams sure didn't do is to invent musical setpieces á la Spielberg. SUPER 8 had mostly 1 to 2 minute readings of one of the 2 or 3 themes followed by some suspense, action and so on. Apart from the finale, i couldn't detect much 'musicality' in the film, to be frank. The score seemed servicable, but it hardly elevated the movie.

Both amazon and Varese's official site still say July 12th so who knows...

When it was supposed to come out June 28th, June 17th was around the time that Amazon updated their listing to July 12th. The Varese site wasn't updated until June 22nd.

So hopefully if it was pushed back from July 12, Amazon would have been updated on July 1st. Then again, cause of the holiday...

I still have my doubts that the reason for the push is artwork-related. They perhaps just didnt want a market of current releases satured with _3_ giacchino soundtracks.

I figured the artwork would would be the same as a the poster. I'm more worried about the film's weak BO affecting the release.

It's not really weak. The film had a relatively small budget (50 million, was it?). It's a kind of a Predators financial success.

That's why we haver our niche labels?

I would be higly dissapointed if varesee 'passed on' this one.

Actually, the military theme is basically Giacchino's bad guy motif from SWON (skip to the :41 of

) with a couple of extra notes tacked on at the end.

I was hoping to put Super 8 together with the Varese club release, if it's something I want, and the Herrmann set from last month but 5 days to go and still nothing.

Which is nothing Williamnesque.

Amazon says it's still shipping next Tuesday, still no update on tracklistings or album artwork.

Could it possibly be to still keep the movie plot secret?

They did an AMAZING job keeping it quiet going into theaters, but man, this better be at my door next week, I NEED to hear this score!!

I doubt it's to keep it secret. I don't know why they're not posting details, but I honestly believe the album probably still isn't ready. If it does ship next week it'll probably be a last minute arrival. Who knows though.
