#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
The dysfunctional family in WOTW is very Spielberg. From the time he was coming to terms with his relationship between him and his father. CMIYC is another film which features this. Chen G. 3,950
Well, he is (or was, pre Schindler's List) a big kid. Alongside the dysfunctional families which have become a calling card for Spielberg, so too are the "Spielberg nine-year-old" characters which pop up in so many of his films. They're essentially self-insert characters - they are Steven Spielberg.

It just seems to me it's more in line with the times we are living in. The utopian view of the happy family stems from the '50s and is too Disneyesque (vintage Disney). Most families today wouldn't know how to relate to that. Is Guardian Of The Galaxy a typical Spielberg movie because of the many dysfunctional family themes it exhibits? But of course, the director...well...directs the screenwriters through the various drafts so that the resulting screenplay suits his sensibilities. Although, certainly, Spielberg is in no small part a director who is somewhat dependant on having a good script to churn out a good movie. Very rarely is the way Spielberg directs a film (other than his penchant for melodrama) a fault, even in his lesser films.

That depends on how well they're done. There's nothing that infuriates me more in movies than teasing that it's a genre that it actually isn't. Like I said, I had this same complaint about the 2014 Godzilla - I love the monster action which it revels in during the last half hour, but the monsters don't really drive the film as much as the family/domestic drama does. It reeks of filmmakers feeling like they'd rather be making another movie.

The aliens were already using our own satellites to coordinate their attacks, while Jeff Goldblum was able to analyse the signal enough to enable him to translate it into a countdown, so it isn't all that farfetched that he was able to write a virus on an earth computer that would do some damage to alien software. John 2,032
Iron Man (2008) After over a decade of buildup and expansion of this universe, its scale and linearity feel almost quaint in comparison. A fine script with plenty of room for wry character interactions and humor. Popular Post The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY I don’t watch a lot of westerns; it’s not a genre I’ve really explored. But I can’t think of a better way to start than with perhaps one of the most famous spaghetti westerns of all time. Of course, there’s good reason for its popularity. A few brief words to describe what I was thinking while watching are, “This is kind of funny, at times, in a way.”, as well as, “The story is pretty good, and the characters do everything you’d want them to do, even if it isn’t what you’d expect them to do.”. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly employs a variety of great zoom techniques, which place emphasis on certain objects, etc., and keep the pace up (most of them are executed in a swift and smooth fashion, to not become too choppy visually). Another takeaway was the close-ups on characters’ faces. Par exemple: I suppose it helps that the trio have unforgettable faces and expressions, obviously spearheaded by Clint Eastwood’s stoic squint and classic cigar pressed between his lips. The climax is near perfect, uses these methods to build tension. The story is solid, and there were quite a few laughs, even in the rogue moments of blood and brutality, which are quite easy-going in comparison to other flicks of the same nature, I’d imagine. And the music? It’s Ennio Morricone’s most memorable score, period. Between the Ecstasy of Gold and the unforgettably “different” orchestrations (the guitar, the vocals, etc.), it really seals the deal for the film. RATING: **** out of ***** CONSENSUAL STATEMENT: “Heck of a lot of wild west fun and fury. Classic material.” -Jerry Koray Savas, Chen G. and publicist 2
