#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Theme from X2/Days Of Future Past!
Jilal 663 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Drawing the Battle Lines, ESB. The first part is gorgeous.
Uni 307 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Yes it is.The opening of Fellowship of the Ring (due to material in another post).
Gnome in Plaid 219 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I've had the "Jamaican Heroes" theme from Cool Runnings stuck in my head going on a week now. If you ask me, that's easily Zimmer's best score. It's just so much fun!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The string ostinato from Mona Lisa Overdrive.
Glóin the Dark 1,851 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 One of the themes from Gettysburg - probably because I wrote "Gettysburg" in another thread earlier today...
Naïve Old Fart 12,928 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Across the stars - Attack of the Clones John WilliamsI get goosebumps every time I hear it.Don't you mean "Luke's Theme"?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The string ostinato from Mona Lisa Overdrive.Which one?
crocodile 9,642 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The flying theme from Maleficent.Karol Koray Savas 1
Quintus 6,358 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The flying theme from Maleficent.KarolDoes it have quality thematic writing and cues?
crocodile 9,642 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The flying theme from Maleficent.KarolDoes it have quality thematic writing and cues? No, it's more about soaring arrangement. The theme is fine, but quite simple.Karol
Naïve Old Fart 12,928 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 "Imaginary Air Battle" (I've been posting on the "EOTS" thread).
Uni 307 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The Lonely Man Theme from the Incredible Hulk T.V. series. (Wow . . . does that take me back.)
crocodile 9,642 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Like a Gia theme?Yeah. Or second rate James Horner.Karol
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.
Quintus 6,358 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I'll have to listen to it. I doubt I'll consider it to be more enjoyable than his Avatar, but who knows.
crocodile 9,642 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.Mmm no. It's solid scoring, but nothing in it surpasses Horner's best material. And it does "steal" from him, too. Karol
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Horner's best material is from the past 10 years?
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years. That isn't much of a feat.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Anything Horner composed in the past ten years is just pieced together from what he composed in the previous ten.
Quintus 6,358 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 And yet most of the time it's still better than GiaPlat.
Bilbo 4,277 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 And it's all better than the RCP and Zimmer stuff!
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years. That isn't much of a feat.True.
KK 3,310 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.Nope. May not have been a good time for horner, but his best in that period are still very much above Maleficent.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The reviewer at rogerebert.com calls the score mediocre.
Gnome in Plaid 219 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.I was going to say House of Sand and Fog, but then I realized it's been 11 years. How about The Life Before Her Eyes or Black Gold/Day of the Falcon?
publicist 4,650 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Just be content that JNH did something with flair and lots of - for this time and place - refreshing orchestral ideas. Horner has his own brand of pros and cons and there would be sure as hell a lot of shouting if Maleficent's foes would roam around to the dreaded calls of the rotten old danger theme etc.
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 And yet most of the time it's still better than GiaPlat.Gia, yes. Desplat? God no.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.Nope. May not have been a good time for horner, but his best in that period are still very much above Maleficent.I'm starting to realize that the more you post the more I disagree with you!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 He is an intelligent young man!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 KK's ultimate judgement will come when it is revealed which, if any, of the "Composer's Competition" entries were his. KK 1
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Nope. I judge a man by his words, not his compositional abilities.I mean, lets face it. No composer worth a damn would waste his time here.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 So don't be surprised when I begin slowly fading away from here.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I cant imagine you being much good. You compose with MIDI, right?
Quintus 6,358 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 KK. is definitely someone I can work with. His views and tastes... make sense. I don't ever find him... inexplicable. KK 1
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I cant imagine you being much good. You compose with MIDI, right? No, but I will defend anyone who does.On a scale from Santaolalla to Williams, I'm about a 90s Horner.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,223 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 KK has my seal of approval....for the moment! KK 1
KK 3,310 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Glad to know I'm still not on any ignore lists yet!Maleficent is better than anything Horner has composed in the past 10 years.Nope. May not have been a good time for horner, but his best in that period are still very much above Maleficent.I'm starting to realize that the more you post the more I disagree with you! I forgive you. In all fairness, I just realized the last 10 years of Horner's career don't cover the scores I was thinking of, it's a much more dull period. But still, I hold stuff like Legend of Zorro and The New World on higher ground than Malifecent. KK's ultimate judgement will come when it is revealed which, if any, of the "Composer's Competition" entries were his. They aren't, sadly. I had something good sketched up, and I was pretty satisfied with it. But due to time limitations, I didn't have time to finish it or start on the mockup. I do plan on expanding on it someday, making it a piece of its own for the future...(if it ever sees the light of day)KK. is definitely someone I can work with. His views and tastes... make sense. I don't ever find him... inexplicable.Am I on thin ice? KK has my seal of approval....for the moment! Thanks Stiff!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 The string ostinato from Mona Lisa Overdrive.Which one?3:33
