So Mychael Danna is the new new John Williams?

No he is the new Thomas Newman of course!

Who is the new John Williams...

Nu-uh! Never! John Williams is the new old John Williams!

So at one point, we thought we'd be getting this:

Bridge of Spies - John Williams

SPECTRE - Thomas Newman

The Good Dinosaur - Thomas Newman
The Force Awakens - John Williams

And now in the end, we got this:

Bridge of Spies - Thomas Newman

SPECTRE - Thomas Newman

The Good Dinosaur - Mychael Danna

The Force Awakens - John Williams

Which situation is preferable to you?

Pity. We could have gotten something really cool out of this.

Danna is good too though.

His music worked great for the visually stunning scenes in Life of Pi. Some scenes in that were almost Pixar-like in their vibrant colours. Some nice piano moments with enough exotic flavouring will suit the Good Dinosaur well, so I'm optimistic for Danna. Newman was always my first choice for it though so a shame not to hear his take.

I would rather have had Giacchino over Newman or Danna, but I honestly didn't think Giacchino was going to score this after the busy spring/summer he's already had.

Interesting choice... So he's scoring this and the short that precedes it, right?

Pixar's new household composer?

As long as a Giacchino's still alive, there can only be one in-house composer at Pixar.

Thats racist!

Nah. That's profiling.

Including the next 3 ones coming out, there are 17 Pixar films. Of the 17:

7 were scored by Randy Newman (Toy Story 1-3, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Cars, Monsters U)

5 were scored by Michael Giacchino (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2, Inside Out)

3 were scored by Thomas Newman (Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, WALL-E)

and the last 2 are one-off jobs (Patrick Doyle on Brave and Mychael Danna on The Good Dinosaur)

If Randy Newman gets Toy Story 4 he'll go up to 8; If Giacchino gets Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 he'll go up to 7.

We still don't know who is scoring their Día de los Muertos one yet, either.

It's like a Pixar battle-royale of in-house composers with special guest stars.

Of course, Giacchino has also scored 5 of their short films (One Man Band, Lifted, Partly Cloudy, Day & Night, and La Luna) and 2 of their TV specials (Toy Story of Terror, Toy Story That Time Forgot)

So Giacchino is still Pixar's top go-to composer for their productions, both big and small.

Let the battle for the crown begin.

No that long. Announced in 2012. It was supposed to come out in 2015 but got pushed back after The Good Dinosaur did.

Basically Pixar's schedule went from this:

2014-05-30: The Good Dinosaur

2015-06-19 Inside Out

2015-11-25 Finding Dory

2016-06-17 Día de los Muertos film

To this:

2014: the first year without a Pixar movie since 2005

2015-06-19 Inside Out

2015-11-25 The Good Dinosaur

2016-06-17 Finding Dory

with the Día de los Muertos film currently not being scheduled.

Well, at least now they're compensating for it by releasing two films in one year.

They always planned on releasing two films in 2015

Just not the way they expected to the first time around.

It was pretty gorgeous. Lovely theme. Nice and colorful.

:up::up:

Bombay Jayshree's voice really adds a wonderful quality to it.

Time for another rap battle?

You have my attention. Between which two composers? (And a surprise guest composer)

It's definitely a big departure from the look of all their other films

Well, if you compared the first Toy Story film with this, technology has certainly changed the look of their films over the past two decades.

I'm not talking about technological changes, I'm talking about artistic ones.

Oh.

Well, objectively speaking, different artist = different look. This film marks the feature-film directorial debut of Peter Sohn, so this ought to be interesting.
