Your Goldsmith collection

Which Goldsmith CDs do you have? Can you name & rate them?

Recently, I saw the CDs of Congo, The 13th Warrior and Omen II in a used CD store. They sold for 5 to 8 Euros each. Should I get them?

So far, I have Poltergeist and Basic Instinct. I like them a lot, although they can't possibly compare to a John Williams.

:P

Thanks.

I don't have them all (I'm missing a few-- regular releases, ie; I don't have that many, uh, unofficial ones), but it's stil wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to many to type.

Sorry.

You're right, they're a lot better, but don't say it too loud here or you'll get yourself lynched! :P

All three are good. Congo is not exceptional, but it has a nice theme, and good suspense & action.

The 13th Warrior is very very good.

Omen II / Damien: look for Varèse's Deluxe edition rather; it has more music (remastered, too), plus the original album.

If you liked "Dry Your Tears, Afrika" from Williams Amistad, you'll like "Spirit Of Africa" from Congo. I don't recall the rest what the rest of the score is like, but IMO that theme is worth the price of the disc.

13th Warrior -- Love the first track, need to get to know the rest better.

Omen 2, the delux CD has a great short little "snowmobile" piece.

Personally it's my least fav Omen score, but its also the Omen score I know the least as well.

Now, I don't want anyone making fun of me, but I just acquired my first Goldsmith CD, "Capricorn One" when Intrada made their "collection" edition. I saw the thread somewhere and opened up the link. I figured what the hell, and bought it without a second thought. I got it in the mail today, and am currently listening to it. That doesn't mean I'm not familiar with other scores, but I never technically....oh, what's the word....."bought" one.

Tim, who hopes to expand this collection soon.

The Final Conflict Deluxe Edition sounds so damn good, it's as though it was recorded yesterday. I'd nominate it as a favourite for an SA-CD release. Damien: Omen II is a fine score, but the LA recording sounds so messy sometimes, performance and recording wise. It's the least balanced score in the trilogy, but still good if I'm in the mood for pure screaming satanic chants set to classic Goldsmith rhythms.

It's Jerry the Cat.

Awesome. D'you have one named Tom? ;)

And do you have the Alien series twice there?

Old box with iso scores, new box with tons of extras I have yet to watch.

Marian - :|

The Quadrilogy release ditched the iso scores? Bummer.

No. But if there was a mouse around here, you can bet I'd named it Tom. Hmm, perhaps I should start naming my computer mice...

Indeed they did. I could still get rid of the other three DVDs from the old set, but I've always been too lazy.

Marian - who still hasn't watched the extended cut of the fourth movie either (and while I agree it's nowhere near up the standards of the first three, I still consider it enjoyable, and highly stylish).

Quite some time ago I bought The Final Conflict, one of the greatest scores ever, but very poor sound quality. Some years ago it was reissued with a couple of extra tracks. I wonder if the sound was enhanced too, like a remaster. Anyone?

Well you have 3 of his best scores at least.

That's good to hear. I assume they are:

I'm hoping to get a CDr copy of Chinatown shortly. A guy I work has a brother that has it and I have been begging him to get a copy for us. I understand an original is quite pricey.

Much enhanced. The old release sounds horrible, the new one sounds quite good. FAR better than the old one.
