KK 3,310 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I really dig that concert version finale of Jedi Steps. DarthDementous 1
Disco Stu 15,509 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Yes, I immediately ripped the Youtube audio and have been listening The President's Own Star Wars suite for days now. Great stuff.
Datameister 2,443 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Really wonderful performance, Jwfan2234 - thanks for these links. There are certain moments that I actually find more moving or impactful than in the original, particularly where the trumpets are concerned. Here we get to enjoy some of the punch and bravado that I just find to be a bit lacking in the TFA recordings. And I do like the concert ending, though the way the TFA credits end is just perfection. And to think I almost didn't bother watching! Cerebral Cortex 1
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 The timpani in The March of the Resistance is better as well! Makes me pine for a good alternate.
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Well, I definitely agree with the general gist of this: http://www.denofgeek.us/movies/star-wars/254503/star-wars-the-force-awakens-is-still-no-return-of-the-jedi
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Disagree. Much of ROTJ feels off, tired or forced. Its such a joyless film.
Popular Post Quintus 5,724 Posted April 17, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 17, 2016 Luke versus Vader and The Emperor is as good as anything from the first two movies. For me Jedi is a solid and rousing finale. And John's score blows his TFA work away. mstrox, Director of Poltergeist, Sharkissimo and 1 other 4
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 It's a massive step down from the first two films. Masked mostly by people's childhood sentimentality for it. But yeah the score is fantastic.
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Sentimentality will always play a big part in these things, but mine isn't childhood based since I didn't watch Star Wars as a child.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Then you should see it's mostly rubbish! A. A. Ron 1
Brónach 1,318 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The first one doesn't work for me these days. There's something odd about it.
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The only thing I might take issue with are the Ewoks, but they are easy to ignore really. It's Star Wars.
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The Ewoks were a crap idea all round. What else is wrong with it though? The Death Star Mk II thing never bothered me whatsoever.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The Jabba stuff drags. Jabba's Palace, Ewoks! Makes it feel like The Muppet Show. And trees! This is not Star Wars for me and Alex!
Director of Poltergeist 8,128 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The Ewoks are what make the movie, along with implied Jabba/Leia beastiality.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 For you and Drax, sure. I bet its your favorite of the films
Director of Poltergeist 8,128 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 My favorite is Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 My men??? You 'aving a laugh? In all seriousness, when I watched ROTJ last year I was surprised how bored I was by it. For the most part it's quite anemic.
Lady Dimitrescu 9,927 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I've never seen anamorphic look so boring in a major film!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 ROTJ was anamorphic? No way!
Lady Dimitrescu 9,927 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 It was J-D-C Scope, which was a Panavision knock-off. They also used it on Poltergeist.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Poltergeist looks great!

In all seriousness, when I watched ROTJ last year I was surprised how bored I was by it. For the most part it's quite anemic. Anemic is a good word for it. I don't hate the film - it's elevated by things like the Emperor's presence and the resolution of Vader's story arc. It's also darker than it gets credit for...there are some very bittersweet overtones, especially as Luke loses another mentor and then his own father. All of that stuff works. But the film does lack the vigor and zest you find in its predecessors (and now TFA). It drags. And I never really care as much about the heroes as I do in the first two films.
mstrox 7,223 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 The movie tends to lose me a bit starting with Dagobah until the point when the (long) final battle starts. I think the last two times I saw the movie, I drifted off a bit in that section. So a really good chunk of the movie. And then the fun battle and the excellent Vader/Emperor/Skywalker ending make up for it, for the most part.
Bilbo 4,016 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Everything that happens on the forest moon is pretty much a problem. I don't have an issue with Ewoks blot anything like that but Han and Leai's escapades are really irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. They need to dhutbdiwbvthe shield purely to give them something to do. The space battle and the lightsaber duel are far more interesting.

Naïve Old Fart 11,676 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I bought the Blu ray of TFA, this morning. According to the back cover, JJ Abrams is - and I quote - a "visionary director". I laughed so much that I nearly snorted my double sausage and egg McMuffin out of my nose. Bilbo 1
Jay 42,523 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You need to move your thumb down more when trying to hit space to avoid that on your phone Bilbo 1

Jay 42,523 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Does that mean double sausage, one egg or double sausage, double egg?
Naïve Old Fart 11,676 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 That's 2 sausage, and 1 egg. Yum-yum!
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I don't need your civil war It feeds the rich while it buries the poor. Bilbo 1
Quintus 5,724 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 As much as I enjoyed TFA I still don't rate Abrams as a filmmaker. He's a pair safe hands. There is no mise en scene in his work. Visionary? Is he bollocks. Bilbo 1
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,950 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I don't even know why he bothered filming part of TFA in IMAX.
