Just finished part 2. Brilliant. So grateful for this release and everyone who worked so hard to make it a reality. I’ll posit one minor disagreement with Mike: he stated that he felt  London was too magical and that the transition to Neverland should have been minors stark and dramatic like in The Wizard of Oz. That’s an interesting perspective and one I can understand but I’m glad it ended up like it did. To me (who like John Takis) was eleven when I saw Hook, I always considered London to be somewhat magical in the film. It was the “bridge” to Neverland and to Peter’s past life. It’s where he was adopted. It’s where the story originated and where the book was written. I believe Peter had subconsciously avoided returning to London for many years. His return to London is like the key that begins to unlock the door between the worlds. London is the gateway and therefore slightly magical in its own right. I totally see Mike’s perspective, but for me, the scene as-is is perfect.

Again, I couldn’t be more thankful for this release. Just amazing.

I agree with you. When we first see Peter, it's in the drab, modern world of the United States which seems to represent adulthood and the drudgery of everyday life. He then takes his first flight of the film, appropriately via a PanAm jet, to London, here a somewhat modern, but also old-fashioned world between worlds. With the help of his oldest friend Tinker Bell, he makes his second flight, this time to Neverland, a world of paradox and color that represents the fleeting nature of dreams, happiness and childhood itself. At the end of the film, Peter is finally able to fly on his own again and when he returns to London, he is no longer oblivious to its magic because he has bridged the worlds of childhood and adulthood, successfully incorporating the best traits of both Peter Pan and Peter Banning into one fully-actualized family man, who I would argue belongs in London more than anywhere else.

I cannot wait for this. Easily the most excited I've been about any release in YEARS. Order is Awaiting Shipment and the suspense is killing me. Normally, I'd have had this as a Christmas gift but zero chance I'm waiting that long. Plus, Hook has always been a wintry/Christmassy score to me anyways. So excited for this and grateful you got to be part of it @Jay!

From what I heard, she dominates much of the film. Seeing it Thursday so can't say for sure yet but based on some reviews I've read plus two friends that saw it, it's as much a "Helena" film as an Indy...

ZackR reacted to Cerebral Cortex in Star Trek: Picard (2020 TV Series)
Some quick thoughts after watching the finale to picard 3.0: you are (not) alone:

    • The finale is TNG meets Star Wars meets The End of Evangelion. Trek has never been this Star Wars, even under Abrams. But that's okay. If Andor is Star Wars embracing the best parts of Trek, Picard S3 is Star Trek embracing the best parts of Star Wars. To live in an age where these two divisive fandoms can be bettered by finally taking lessons from the other is a great joy.

    • If we are to define "All Good Things..." as the left hemisphere ending to TNG, this is the full right hemisphere ending, in a good way. In fact, it's very satisfying finally getting fuller and richer arcs for these characters now that they can exist in a post-Gene Roddenberry Trek where characters don't have to be static in time and incapable of changing in profound emotional ways.

    • Stupid ideas are only as stupid as the lack of thought you put into them, something stupid on paper can work on film if you just find a good reason to explain why it should be there. The Enterprise-D coming back, on paper, should not really work, but they did a great job explaining why it feasibly should/could still be around.

    • Great Trek doesn't necessarily have to be perfect Trek. It's surreal seeing TNG getting the proper send-off the TOS crew got with Undiscovered Country. It seemed like such an option was always off the table, so there was never a possibility to hope for it. So to so quickly start to realize what it was you were seeing could only really be met with overall misbelief. But whereas TOS ended with film, TNG ends with television, which in the end seems kinda perfect. Kirk (William Shatner) was made to put at the front and center of big screen adventures, whereas Picard (Patrick Stewart) thrives in proper longer form stories.

    • Question what you love, but don't be as quick to doubt yourself for loving it.

    • Never doubt your ability to love something again.

    And...

    • There's nothing a good Patrick Stewart monologue can't fix.

OMG this piece is amazing! I can simultaneously hear the legacy of Superman, Jurassic Park and The Phantom Menace in there… but in no way do these three mentioned summarize - or are the extent - to what what I’m hearing…. Greatness, plain and simple. Pure, classic Williams!

ZackR got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Jerry Goldsmith's THE BURBS (1989) NEW! 2022 Expanded Edition from La-La Land Records
I've listened to it once and though I couldn't give it my full attention, I did try to dedicate a few minutes. The sound quality is definitely an improvement to my ears but it isn't dramatic. The last release was excellent as well and if the new LLL didn't exist, you'd never hear a complaint from me on the previous one. It's a bit "clearer" if that makes sense. Having the correct takes and bonus tracks is welcome as well.

For those like me who love the score, this is an absolute no-brainer. Buy it immediately. For those who have never heard of it, it's one of the most fun and quirky Goldsmith works there is. I am certainly biased because the film is an all-time personal favorite, but honestly, I'd recommend this to anyone. It's just a lot of fun and never fails to make me smile. If you've already got the previous expanded edition and have to choose between The 'Burbs and other titles in the Black Friday bunch, I'd say go for the others as this is the least changed since its last release. But I love it.
