Or even the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He could share scoring duties with Alan Silvestri. Just so there'd be continuity.

The Matrix Revolutions is coming out soon. In fact it might be as early as this December. Just came back from a meeting with Don Davis and asked him. And his response was that it's funny I should ask about that, because he just listened to album masters just recently and it should be coming out around Christmas.

Nice guy, by the way. And funny too.

Sure sounds like it!

Of course, it all depends on if WB approves it in time or not, right?

I'd get it and would gladly toss the boot.

I concur.

Wonder if they'd include the album versions of "Why, Mr. Anderson" and "Spirit of the Universe" as suite material?

I get the feeling it will include the OST suite arrangements.

Reloaded is a fantastic release, and I suspect LLLR will keep up to that standard. They always do.

I'd like to see them do a complete JP3 :)

Although obviously they're doing the Matrix scores due to them being WB.

Anyone perhaps know which cues make up the Matrix Reloaded suite from the OST?

These Matrixes (Matrices?) shall be mine!

Wow, Warner's must really be taking strain if they are forcing things like this.

I wish Warner Pictures was as into the specialty label film score market right now as Warner Music is!

i have to say, i find the way the program is set up a bit counterintuitive, but it can be fixed

actually, i have no idea what's going on. what's the situation with the first score?

Posted

Oh, I didn't know the expanded version CD and SACD of the first score are already OOP.

I didn't either!

Looks like it sold out in January of this year according to the second-to-last post in this thread

well that can go paired with a different Varese

oh wait nevermind the shipping mention confused me

Posted

Well the complete version of the first score is still available on all the streaming services or as a digital download, its just the physical CD edition thats OOP

Posted

the CD is sad news, but the digital download should be the default arrangement for everything regardless of the physical edition to be honest, so that's something

Interesting, I think you crystallized something for me I'd never been able to put into words.  I've always like Reloaded better than the original, but still appreciated something about the original more than Reloaded.  You've said it perfectly - The Matrix is a more coherent, consistent score, built around a smaller collection of ideas that gel together to form a nice narrative.  But Reloaded has a ton of ideas all over the place.  But since I find so many of those highlights more exciting than the most exciting parts of The Matrix, I favor it. But both are great scores, just different ones.

Then Revolutions is a whole other evolution, looking forward to reading your thoughts on it.

I think that the original score is the "greatest", but Revolutions is my favorite. Reloaded I agree has some amazing highlights but ends up feeling less cohesive, less than the sum of its parts.

I remember Don Davis himself saying that he thought the original was perfectly spotted and there is a great synergy between the visuals and music. And he thought he was asked to overscore the sequels. He didn't think it was necessary to go this loud but they wanted "bigger".
