Popular Post Miguel Andrade 1,527 Posted May 30, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 30, 2013 Really amazing news. Any new chamber music from Williams is just a wonderful, joyous thing to celebrate crocodile, karelm, Incanus and 1 other 4
scissorhands 16 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Great news! Gloria Cheng is a fantastic pianist (she's played the piano parts in John Williams and James Horner's recording sessions for a few years now), apart from a champion of contemporary music.
Jay 42,494 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Yea, she played the piano parts in The Adventures of Tintin
Maurizio 5,893 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 This is awesome news! I was waiting for years for a piano solo concert piece by JW.
Thor 9,308 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 This is awesome news! I was waiting for years for a piano solo concert piece by JW.What he said! I've been waiting for a JW piano piece forever (since the piano sonata will probably never see the light of day). Finally we get to hear a concert piece for John Williams' MAIN instrument!Tremendous news. We've really had a lot of them recently, haven't we? Once 1
indy4 159 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Yes!!!!Just emailed them and asked if it will be recorded.
fommes 161 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Yes! Excellent! I, too, have been waiting a long time for a piece for piano.
tannhauser 101 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Great great news. Hope there will be a published score!
indy4 159 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I wonder if this will be similar to "Rounds" for Solo Guitar? Such a great and haunting piece.
Miguel Andrade 1,527 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Great great news. Hope there will be a published score!Same here. A while back, I contacted the soloist that premiered Rounds and asked him if he knew about the score being published to which he replied he hoped for such a release soon. Hope the same applies for this new work.
JamieC 13 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 This is, indeed, fantastic news. I can hardly keep up with what's new in JWLand at present. JC
Hlao-roo 390 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 How do we know this isn't by the guitarist John Williams?
WilliamsMusicLover1138 2 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but I really hope this gets published because I want to play it in the future!! Does anyone know if this concert will be streaming on the Internet at all??
indy4 159 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Great news!!! This is the response I got from the concert venue:Thank you for your interest in the Mendocino Music Festival! Unfortunately we will not be able to record Gloria Cheng’s concert. I let her know of your interest, and she asked me to tell you that she will premiere a third movement (not yet finished) in November on the Piano Spheres series in Los Angeles. If there are more movements forthcoming after that, she’ll introduce them at subsequent recitals. She will record the entire set when John Williams says the piece is finished. So we're getting at least one more movement, and an eventual recording! mrbellamy and Smeltington 2
Incanus 5,858 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Oh there is more piano music on the way! The Maestro just doesn't stop does he. He sure keeps the pencil moving.
Hlao-roo 390 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 If John Williams never declares the piece finished, she will never record it! Ricard 1
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I can't wait for this to be "finished" and hopefully published. It would be great to play something of his other than score transcriptions.
Tom 5,616 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Anybody here going to this today? If so, post a review.
Thor 9,308 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Absolutely. Finished or not finished, I'm extremely curious about this. It's been a lifelong dream to hear a non-film piece for piano by Williams.
filmmusic 2,638 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Anybody here going to this today? If so, post a review.just a review?i say post the whole thing in video!
mrbellamy 7,329 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 So I guess there was no news on this? I couldn't find any reviews at all for the Mendocino festival performance. Also is the third movement still premiering in November?

Thor 9,308 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 If Messiaen is coming, that's impressive because he's been dead for 21 years.I really hope there will be SOME sort of recording of this. Code 000. Destruct. 0. 1
Koray Savas 2,256 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Didn't know Giacchino wrote for the concert hall. Cool line-up.
Bespin Copilot 9,633 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Pieces for piano at last, my favorite instrument!
indy4 159 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 So excited! There will be at least a recording of Conversations once JW finishes the piece.Great news!!! Miguel Andrade 1,527 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Great to see that Cheng is playing it again

Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Really lovely pictures! Thanks for spotting these Sandor!
WilliamsStarShip2282 326 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I really hope this piece will be published, so few of his concert works are. Even if it is finished in November, i'm sure it would be well over a year before we get to see it.
Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Well this if anything would be piano book material.
scissorhands 16 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 -Edward Elgar-Copland-Musician-The Great Melody (by Conor Cruise O'Brien)-The Music of Berlioz-Mozart-Collins DictionaryJust to name a few books in his collection.
filmmusic 2,638 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 -The Great Melody (by Conor Cruise O'Brien)oh, i thought this was an analysis book about melody, and I was just about to buy it, but as it turns out it's a biography!
Incanus 5,858 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 -The Great Melody (by Conor Cruise O'Brien)oh, i thought this was an analysis book about melody, and I was just about to buy it, but as it turns out it's a biography!
Thor 9,308 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I wonder who's pictured with -- I assume -- Williams himself, in the photo on the bookshelf (upper, left corner)?
