  1. Cutthroat Island. Like Ray, I am in dire need of getting to know some more Golden Age scores.
  2. Indeed. Especially just after you factually state that Armstrong is not a good composer. You're in danger of becoming Joe.
  3. I was bored by the first 10 minutes of DaVinci. No contest IMO.
  4. Let Indy die? How could you? I liked KotCS enough for it to have been worth making, but unless they go in a radically new direction, i.e. Lucas' suggestion of making Mutt the central character, I don't think they should do another one.
  5. But you know Neil won't accept that. Just like Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope does not exist. Edit - you got in before me
  6. Problem here seems to stem from the overall story, and how it fits together - this seems to be Koepp and Lucas' fault. In fact, I lost a lot of respect for Lucas when the twat turned down a script from Frank Darabont. After the horrors of the prequels, Lucas is in no position at all in my book, to be telling other people how to write scripts. My brother commented last night that the story seemed to be almost nonexistent - Indy takes a skull back to a temple. Wow. The individual little strands leading between sets were a little hokey for me sometimes (they got all that information from some drawing on a cell floor?) I also wasn't 100% convinced by Indy himself. Ford is clearly older, he didn't quite show the flexibility that Indy previously had for me, and he was in desperate need for a sidekick in the form of Sallah or Henry Senior. I'm kind of torn at the moment - on reflection, it was an entertaining two hours. But it's a very, very flawed movie and some of it was just far too preposterous. Just take that fridge for a moment - it's the only object in an entire street that gets catapulted half a mile away, bounces around, and then the door just clicks open at the right time and a 'dazed' Indy climbs out? And the spaceship... oh dear. Just didn't work.
  7. KotCS is the perfect example right now. I saw the film last night, and I'm suddenly attaching images to the score - and I love it! Mutt's theme is now driving me mad, Iriana's theme is kinda cute, and the Skull theme is... mysterious. And I love the Jungle Chase
  8. No - I definitely enjoyed it, even if a few scenes were a little unbelievable (I'm with those who laughed their heads off at the fridge scene). My reaction minutes after it finished were that Spielberg lied about how many SFX he was going to use, and that bringing aliens into it was perhaps not the best story idea. I knew at the start that it was going to be an updated Indy and that there was no way we were getting Last Crusade 2. I'm lookig forward to seeing it again sometime. I think they should only do another one if Mutt is the focus. His character was a lot more convincing than I thought he would be - his face in the prison cell for example - the guy can act.
  9. Just seen the movie. It was entertaining, although Ford's definitely showing his age a bit. My problem with the movie was what a lot of people here seem to have had: the use of CG. It seemed that the further into the movie you went, the more things were CG, to the point where mutt swinging on the vines just didn't look very realistic, and the sword fight... back projection hell. Also I'm sorry.. but aliens?? I don't like them in the Indy world, and the space ship taking off at the end was a step too far. A good but also very flawed movie. I look forward to my next viewing (probably in HD on here) and I can suspend my belief 300% for a few hours. One very good thing it did do, was increase my appreciation for the score, even if it was next to inaudible at times - I've finally got images to attach to a lot of it. What surprised me most actually, was that the edits in Jungle Chase were in the film too! It seems that what we have is just a very small, full section of that cue.
  10. I don't get the hype around Iriana's theme - there's nothing in it that makes me start endlessly humming it. In fact, none of the new themes make me want to jump for joy, although Mutt's theme can be kind of fun.
  11. Certainly is - charge as much as people will pay for it, regardless of how much it is realistically worth. Gotta be better things to spend $100 on than a CD when there are starving people on the planet...
  12. I decided not to order Crystal Skull, although it's possible that might change after I've seen the movie. Even if it's just the evidently crappy album presentation, it just hasn't met my expectations for an Indy score. To be honest, the only Indy score I'm interested in physically buying at the moment is an expanded Crusade. Last album I bought? Would have been a digital download of I, Robot.
  13. Hard to beat Amazon marketplace. I've got new, sealed CDs for as little as 70p.
  14. It would probably send me to sleep fairly quickly.
  15. I read a rumour that that's why every Jurassic re-recording he's ever done since then is really sped up.
  16. This is very weird... I agree with Joe. Again. I think a part of making it in this industry is avoiding the whole collaborative thing, and showing you have an original voice (note I'm not bashing Zimmerites. I'm just saying that in this climate it's noticeable that those such as Giacchino, who really have their own voice, are getting the more interesting projects).
  17. For once I kind of agree with Joe. I wouldn't be on this forum today if my only experiences with Williams were his post 2000 output. There are only maybe 3 or 4 scores from this period that I enjoy in their entirety. I think his optimum period began with Star Wars, end ended sometime around Jurassic Park. I don't think declining ability is a decisive factor though - I believe directors' and film requirements have changed sufficiently that he's being asked for different things. A random example is Minority Report - I don't really like that score, but it fit with the film.
  18. We're polar opposites Joe - Crusade is my favourite film and score, and LotR is nothing less than my favourite score. PS: The entire contents of the above post was the author's opinion.
  19. No, that's right, they just dialled the choir out until the B part of the theme. One of the more pleasant surprises on the CR. The obsessive completist in me wants to rip that tiny bit and make a film version <_<
  20. I've been reading all kinds of Indy threads (except the new 'unreleased' one) and haven't found anything I didn't want to know for another 2 days.
  21. Ok, who gave these clowns the rights to this music?
  22. 4 CDs and 4 scores doesn't allow for expanded releases. Doesn't matter if she can't confirm anything.
  23. I'm disappointed by this news. I'd definitely pay for a complete Crusade, and the decision to include KotCS is just strange - why not make them available separately in which form they're more likely to be picked up on whim by the average Joe?
  24. Stepmom, Sleepers, AotC Wouldn't want any of that garbage in return though.
  25. Only seen Sleepy Hollow. Really should watch more Burton (and general) movies, but oddly as a filmmaking buff, watching movies is what I seem to get around to the least.
