Presumed Innocent: The Deluxe Edition (CD)
    JOHN WILLIAMS
    UPC: 888072419094
    Release Date: 5/20/2022
    Regular price$ 19.99

Presumed Innocent, the debut novel of Scott Turow, was a bestseller upon publication in 1987: a twisty, ultra-smart account of a prosecutor investigating the murder of a brilliant colleague with whom he was having an affair—and all clues point to himself as the perpetrator.

The book was made into an equally riveting, first-class film in 1990, directed by Alan J. Pakula (Klute, All the President’s Men) and starring Harrison Ford, Brian Dennehy, Raul Julia, Bonnie Bedelia, Paul Winfield, Greta Scacchi and John Spencer.

By 1990, John Williams was a worldwide icon for his soundtracks to blockbusters—but he was a master of every possible genre, including the unique combination of crime thriller and courtroom drama that was Presumed Innocent.

Williams created a haunting, beguiling score of subtle piano, noble yet melancholy French horn, churning strings and even a wisp of synthesizer to express the film’s exploration of guilt and innocence, virtue and obsession. It is an exquisitely subtle score, but melodic and stimulating—and dramatically pitch-perfect.

Presumed Innocent was released by Varèse Sarabande at the time of the film, and has now been expanded and remastered by Mike Matessino in a new program of the complete score, followed by unique album versions and alternates. New liner notes are by Jeff Bond.

    Limited edition of 2,500 copies.

Another way to listen to some of the "space" themed cues of the Philips years:

(in Japan, 1 hour 21 minutes of music, I love those Japs!)

(Don't know why they removed the two Superman tracks from this one, it could have been an almost "perfect" compilation then!)

How can a mere two titles be a BIG batch?

Or do they mean the scores / films themselves are big / really popular / really requested?

What are the "biggest" titles they control in perpetuity?

Listened to it with @Chewyand @crypto. Well, it's a real mixed bag. There are cues where he tries to go big and fails, cues where he tries and succeeds. Cues where he tries to sound SWey and fails, cues like He's Here For Us where he succeeds in creating something with a mood and tension. Cues where he tries to directly copy JW and fails miserably, cues like AT-ACT Assault's middle where he really succeeds. Cues where he goes small and ends up being dull, cues where he goes small and succeeds. Cues where he attempts to do action and it ends up sounding like he told an AI to fill it in between these story beats with no regards to emotional or musical shape like Confrontation on Eadu, there are cues where he attempts to do action and really succeeds in creating something with shape and form, like AT-ACT again, even if it's Hothy. Some of the brass sounds godawful, some of it sounds all right. The final battle starts off really strong, then completely falls apart and just gives up by the end, not helped by quiet breaks and being split up into smaller cues.
And on that and the 20 second breaks and the lack of credits: sure I guess we could edit it ourselves and join cues if we bought it digitally or pirated it, and rip the bluray and shit, and the vast majority will still consume it on streaming or the ones who got it on vinyl and get a definitely inferior experience and somewhat of a misrepresentation of a score due to this complete thoughtlessness, this straight session folder dump instead of a produced expansion, can just get fucked, right?
So, overall, a puzzlingly mixed experience... but I like puzzles enough and the highs like Your Father, Good Luck Little Sister, Rebellions Are Built on Hope etc. are high enough that one weekend when I'm real bored I'll definitely assemble some great listenable playlist from it.
